Question about Troy Bilt Tb70ss Gas Trimmer

1 Answer

TB70ss will not accelerate

I did what he manual suggested, cleaned the air filter, spark arrester, changed the fuel.

The unit starts fine, after warm up it will not accelerate, it bogs down and finally stalls.

This unit was new this spring and has only been used 5-6 times. It worked perfectly last week.

Change the spark plug..
Change the fuel filter..
Check the fuel line for crack/splits..
Make sure the primer ball is sealed and not succking in air while running..
If it still acts up - it might need the carb might need to be rebuilt..
If it sat for a long time - the fuel will shellac in the carb and provent it from working properly..

Good luck..

Why does saw die after running for a few minutes.

Well, if it is you lucky day it is a plugged vent to the fuel tank!! Loosen the fuel tank cap and see if unit will continue to run with out a problem. If the vent is plugged after a few minutes as the fuel leaves the tank a vacuum is created and prevents the fuel from entering the carburetor.
chainsaw fuel tank vent line repair

If not so lucky it can be the ignition coil that fails when it gets hot!
Chainsaw Ignition Coil Test

One other possibility is that the chain gets tight on the bar when hot. Check tension and oilier. Manually oil just to check it out.

Last item can be fuel/oil mix!! If confusion or what ever has no oil in the mix the piston gets tight against the cylinder creating excessive friction stalling the engine and potential engine damage!!

Starts up but in time it will not revup, it will drop off and will die

Check the air filter and if this does not solve the problem check the spark arrester screen in the muffler. Also check for a clogged fuel filter in the fuel tank.

My chainsaw is reving too high - I found the screw that adjusts it but not sure which way to turn it - when I did turn it it either revs its guts out or doesn't start - so now afraid to turn it too far one...

  • Start the engine and let it run long enough to warm it up (usually 1-2 minutes is sufficient). Shut off the engine.

  • Check the air filter to see if it is clean, and if it is not, replace it. Check the spark arrest filter in the muffler to be sure it is clean; clean the spark arrester if it is dirty by removing it and burning the deposits off with a BernzOmatic torch, or other torch. Replace the filter if it is in really bad shape.
  • Turn the "H" screw counterclockwise until it stops (should be no more than a 3/4 turn with a small flathead screwdriver. Turn the "L" screw clockwise until it stops. Then turn it counterclockwise 1/4 turn.
  • Set the Idle Speed
  • Be sure the carburetor is set to the standard setting. Start the engine.
  • Turn the "LA" screw clockwise until it stops, or until the chain begins to run. Turn the screw counterclockwise 1 x 1/2 turns.
  • Call your local chainsaw repair shop to have them repair the chainsaw if the chain continues to run after completing Step 2.
  • Choppy Idling and Acceleration Adjustment
  • Be sure the carburetor is set to the standard setting. Start the engine.
  • Verify that the low speed screw "L" is 1/4 turn open.
  • 3 Turn the low speed screw counterclockwise until the engine idles and accelerates.
  • Verify that the new setting works after the engine has cooled and warms up again.

If the trimmer is new and giving you these problems, then take it back to the retailer and either trade for another one, or pay a little extra for a 4 cycle. The 4 cycle is a little hard to start too, but will run out perfectly and no more mixing of oil.

The higher price tag is well worth the time, effort and aggrivation experienced versus a 2 cycle engine.

    I hope this helps.

Weedeater starsts and ildes won't run or accelerate

Make sure your gas supply is fresh...not from last year...
Secondly, clean and service the air filter element... you may need to reoil it before installation...check your manual.
Disconnect the fuel line and drain it and what little is in the carb...push on the prime bulb if it's got one...
Then with a clean air filter and fresh gas... give it a start and after start, disengage the choke..
Let me know how you do..

Runs fine when first start. Dosen't want to start after warmed up.

Have you checked or Changed the Fuel Filter.
It will be in the tank hooked to the fuel line. I suggest a small pair of Hemostats for this job.
