A YouTube video shows the procedure using a Husqvarna 350 here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdqkIuVNUQc
1. I looked at IPLs for the 55 & 455 and didn't see any special tools.
2. A length of starter cord or nylon rope may be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and be cut when the piston rises.
3. It is probably a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).
Let us know how it worked for you. GL
Lou
It appears the 455 must be a "spur" type chain drive sprocket. the 55 offers the option of a "rim and spline" drive sprocket. If replacing the clutch drum I recommend the "rim and spline".

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.

Ignition module gap
Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.

Husky 55 rancher - I rebuilt this saw but now it won't start. Seems like not getting enough gas. What should I check for?

Check for plugged fuel filter and muffler. Check the fuel lines for decay or damage. Did you service the carburetor? Make sure the lower chamber diaphragm is not hard or cracked. Did you change the two jet settings? Put some fuel mix into the plug hole and pull it through--you should get a pop or two. If ok, then concentrate on the fuel problem. If no spark at the plug, check the ignition module gap to the flywheel magnets using a thin business card for a gauge. Hope this helps!

  1. Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed. Poulan (Craftsman, Jonsered, Husky) clutch removal tool part number 530031112 if needed, is under $5 from many sources (look at the visible area between the weights if 2 small round sockets are visible you need the tool).
  2. There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston.
• I suggest a length of nylon rope (nothing left behind) be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it).
• Make certain the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
  1. Everyone I have ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).

Changing clutch drum on a husqvarna 455e rancher chainsaw

You have a couple of options. Oregon offers both rim and spur sprockets to fit your saw. Rim systems are initially more expensive but replacing just the rim portion is less expensive than 2 spur sprockets.

A part number for an OE spur sprocket and illustrations that may be helpful for disassembly may be found here:

Your saw has an outboard clutch, this is a very guide for removal:

55 IPLs start at page 4 but I doubt it has the level of detail you need.

The following thread is about your saw. Someone of will probably be willing to provide the photo you need. There are other threads where your saw is discussed.

I must warn you. Many that frequent here develop an obsession with chainsaws. When I joined I had 1 and had only owned 2. I now own 7 and am always on the look out for a new one.
Good luck with your project. HTH
