If You can see an image on the screen in normal mode, the backlight is fine. The problem is on the contact group when You flip the screen. Needs to be repaired in a service center, and it's low-cost operation. Do not try to make it yourself. Sincerely. Alfredo.

When using different lenses, a few things should be kept in mind. For some you need an adapter and not every lens ail work as the lenses made for this camera. Sometimes focus or other things needs to be set manually. So even when you can connect a lens to the camera you don't have any guaranty it will work fully automatic and correct. Please read the manual tag came with your camera, about the differences between the four thirds cameras and lenses.

Auto zooming on power up, intermittent problem

Possibly a intermittent connection in the control buttons or the ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connector from the controls to the main PCB.
Take it in for servicing, they will do a trial by substitution (swap out control) and lubricate the connector.
There isn't really anything you can do to fix with this sort of problem.

Cheers.

System error: zoom message with Panasonic Lumix FS15 camera

I had the same problem, i switched the camera on in capture mode and zoomed in and applied a little pressure to the lens which made a slight click but retracted and has worked fine since. I may of just been lucky but the camera is fully functional again, could be worth a try.

Lens

You have a 55mm filter size on your camera, and the accessory lens requires a 62mm camera connection. I think you are looking through a 55mm tunnel into a 62mm lens (over-simplified I know). The black ring is the result, and I don't think you can fix that. Is the telephoto a Panasonic accessory, or a third party item. I think I already know the answer to that. I'd take it back and see what Panasonic recommends - you'd be happier. However, Panasonic has Leica glass (Leitz lenses) so it won't be cheap.

Only Panasonic will have repair/replacement facilities
If the camera is more then a year old or not a current model
A new replacement may be a better bet than trying for costly repairs.

You may want to check with a guy in South Carolina that has a lot of used parts, etc for the TZ1. I think his email is gerald.ray@aa-ark.com

Zoom malfunctioning

This sounds like there is debris lodged in the zoom gears. Been to the beach lately? The gears in the zoom mechanism are very small, and even a tiny spec of sand or other debris can jam them up. Alternatively the sensor inside the lens that feeds back the position of the lens to the control circuit may be failing - so the camera thinks the lens has retracted all the way and stops. If the stoppage of the zoom action is abrupt then it is probably debris, if it is a smooth stoppage like the camera is stopping on purpose it is probably a position sensor. Either way the camera will require repair. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
