    Thanks for your reply.

We started getting the "Testing Hardware Please Wait" message. I replaced the CMX board and we continue to get the same message.

    I've reset the memory.

I've also disconnected the 10/100 card, turned the 6400 on (we are using ethernet), got the Testing Hardware... message, turned the 6400 off, reconnected the 10/100 card, turned the 6400 back on, and still get the Testing Hardware... message.

How would I reset the defaults or reflash the new CMX board?

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your printer Scott.

Have you tried resetting the memory yet?
If you are using an Ethernet connection,
disconnect your 10/100 card and turn it on.

If this doesn’t work you can also try resetting your defaults.

If none of this works, it might be that you CMX has lost some of its boot configurations and needs to be reflashed or possibly fixed. Depends.

If you are uncertain about these instructions, you absolutely should not attempt it.

Good luck.

To reset an IBM 6400 firmware, Hold cancel & stop while powering on the printer to enter the maintenance menu.
You can wipe the firmware or re-flash from there. You need to have a copy of the
    microcode firmware to reload.

TOF doesn't cycle platen

Usually due to a broken platen belt if the motor moves.
Platen belt can be bought though here.

If the motor does not move you most likely have a failing main logic board (called a CMX)

Talk to your supplier about the firmware on the CMX before ordering or it will not work when you get it.

082 Power Supply 8.5V fail

Can be Power supply or CMX PCB. If CMX the printer will need to be re-flashed after replacing, there is no reasonable way to figure out which is the problem without replacing them.

IBM 6400 Stuck At Testing Hardware

Hello Edward,

Have you tried reseating your memory yet? If so try disconnecting your 10/100 card and turn it on. If this doesn’t work you can also try resetting your defaults.

If none of this works, it might be that you CMX has lost some of its boot configurations and needs to be reflashed or possibly fixed. Depends.

IBM 6400-I24

1. Cycle power. If the message appears,
press Stop.
2. Power off the printer. Remove the shuttle
cover. At the shuttle frame assembly,
disconnect the hammer bank logic and
power cables. Power on the printer. If
“HB NOT INSTALLD” appears on the
LCD, replace the shuttle frame assembly.
If “HB NOT INSTALLD” does not appear
on the LCD, replace the CMX controller
board.

I have both parts in stock refurbished with a 30/day warranty. I can take your as an exchange for the good one at a reasonable price. Please let me know I can be reached at 708-597-4222 X240 or email rcardenas@mrp.to.

Controller voltage Problem in IBM 6400 Printer

When you power on the printer, do you hear the fans kick in? If you checked the Maint. Man. skip steps 1 & 2, almost 80% of the time its CMX brd, not knowing your 6400 model? Part# for CMX 40mhz 157450-901, older models have 155802-901 CMX 25mhz V5.5...
Oh yeah if u don't hear fans kick in when you first power up, 80% jumps to 95% chance CMX bad.

I hope you have a current configuration print out! it will save headaches and a lot less down time...

Wont print on line

You may need to have some driver installed on your PC, that can be downloaded from some IBM printer web site, such as this one:

http://www.infoprintsolutionscompany.com/internet/wwsites.nsf/vwWebPublished/supportdownloads_ww

IBM does not manufacture printers any more, they outsourced that to other places like Lexmark & ProPrinter, so we have to figure out which outsource place is relevant & what name they have for whatever corresponds to 6400 driver.
