Question about Panasonic NV-GS11B Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Dead DV I have a panasonic DV camera and I have killed it be accidentally applying the wrong polarity from the AC adaptor (correct voltage). Now it won't power up even with the battery. Is there anything I can do to revive it, or is it likely to be a costly repair.

Very likely a costly repair , to tell you the extent of the damage it is the whole camera unless theres a saftey device such as a replaceable fuse which is in doubt of small electronics. If its got a hard drive you can try to take it out and salvage the contents by using a recovery service. If its disc based the only thing you can do is literally nothing but remove any storage mediums in it.

The power on my banshee is coming on?

Check the polarity of the adapter, if it isn't the original one. Even if you have the right voltage, it still has to have the mA or higher but, most important is the polarity. Most guitar pedals are wired backward on the plug. The positive is on the outside ring of the plug and negative is in the middle. There should be a picture or diagram somewhere on the unit close to the plug to find out. If it is backwards, it could have damaged it, maybe not though. If it is ok, cut the plug off and switch the wires and check it. After all, it's not working now, it couldn't hurt.

You may try to check the camera directly from AC adaptor without battery. If possible check the AC adaptor if its providing voltage?

More than likely, the inline power fuse opened with the reversed voltage applied. This will require opening the camera, this is no easy task and should be left to a qualified technician.

I applied the wrong ac adaptor to my external hardrive

Hello,

My laptop adapter delivers 4A (ampères). Examine the HD adapter, and read all markings, looking for output intensity ( a number followed by a capital A). Do the same with you computer's adapter.
If output intensity delivered by the computer adapter is higher than the output intensity of the HD adapter, chances are you have blown out a fuse inside the HD enclosure (if you have a fuse)

In addition to voltage, intensity, there is the question of polarity of the adapter (positive inside ---C+ or positive outside ---+C. You can verify compatibilties of the adapters by comparing the C with a dot on both adapters.

Hope it helps sort things out a bit.

Where can I buy a replacement ac adapter for my pvs 133 dvd player

Radio Shack sell universal AC adaptors. Just be sure that you select the correct voltage and that the polarity on the power plug is set correctly. Most AC adaptors will have the center of the plug as +, but not all. The Radio Shack universal unit allows you to switch the polarity of the plug by just changing how it's connected on the end of the wire. Incorrect settings could destroy your player.

Completlly stop working after wrong polarity lead been plugged In

one of the first things that go are is the protection diode coming off the + input. Then a fuse and so on. Surface mount fuses are light in color (usially green with white text). Attempt to bypass these components with a small wire or paperclip. Once you follow the lead from positive input you will run into a black rectangular block about the size of a grain of rice with 3 leads. That will be your voltage regulator. Its set at the correct voltage, and since you already have a power supply with a set voltage, then you dont need it. Its also the first thing that blows when you switch polaritys. (voltage regulators have 3 pins - input output and ground) when you switch polaritys that ground becomes the "input" and ..... go to all http://www.alldatasheet.com/ and type in the text you see on that component. It will then identify the component and list its voltage output and at which pin.  Apply set voltage to lead and ... pray?

Best of luck.
