Question about Panasonic NV-GS11B Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Dead DV I have a panasonic DV camera and I have killed it be accidentally applying the wrong polarity from the AC adaptor (correct voltage). Now it won't power up even with the battery. Is there anything I can do to revive it, or is it likely to be a costly repair.

Re: Dead DV

Very likely a costly repair , to tell you the extent of the damage it is the whole camera unless theres a saftey device such as a replaceable fuse which is in doubt of small electronics. If its got a hard drive you can try to take it out and salvage the contents by using a recovery service. If its disc based the only thing you can do is literally nothing but remove any storage mediums in it.

The ac power adaptor ac-v515 is dead.

I can't find the AC v515 adapter any where! But You can buy the next best thing. A battery charger one that will at least fit an NP-F730 battery. Go on to eBay and type Sony vc1000 and anything related will come up. These chargers can be used in your car and at home, what's more they are not expensive.

No power

You may try to check the camera directly from AC adaptor without battery. If possible check the AC adaptor if its providing voltage?

Purchased used Panasonic PV-DV203D without charger. I decided to try a AC/DC transformer that put out the required ~7.5v. The connector was not quite the right size but it powered up when held in the right...

More than likely, the inline power fuse opened with the reversed voltage applied. This will require opening the camera, this is no easy task and should be left to a qualified technician.

I cant eject my Panasonic NV-GS55 Mini DV Digital video cassette

Try ejecting cassette whilst powered from AC Adaptor. Secondly, try operating Eject from powered off mode. If operation LED starts flashing after any of these attempts, the mechanism is probably jammed or has become mis-timed. Unfortunately this requires professional intervention to avoid further damage to your equipment.
I hope this information is of assistance!

Completlly stop working after wrong polarity lead been plugged In

one of the first things that go are is the protection diode coming off the + input. Then a fuse and so on. Surface mount fuses are light in color (usially green with white text). Attempt to bypass these components with a small wire or paperclip. Once you follow the lead from positive input you will run into a black rectangular block about the size of a grain of rice with 3 leads. That will be your voltage regulator. Its set at the correct voltage, and since you already have a power supply with a set voltage, then you dont need it. Its also the first thing that blows when you switch polaritys. (voltage regulators have 3 pins - input output and ground) when you switch polaritys that ground becomes the "input" and ..... go to all and type in the text you see on that component. It will then identify the component and list its voltage output and at which pin.  Apply set voltage to lead and ... pray?

Best of luck.

Crossed polarity to Panasonic AG-455

If you did not damage the dc converter in the camera, you can check several micro fuses located on the regulator board. There are several diodes that assist in blocking reverse polarity applied to the camera. These diodes intentionally open these fuseable devices to protect the power supply and camera.
Hope this helps you,
