Try using a separate card reader to download your pictures.

Testimonial: "That would be helpful information if I weren't such a dummy, I don't even know what a card reader is, nor where to get one."

  • Ty Price Sep 11, 2009

A card reader is a small, inexpensive device with a usb plug on one end and a place to insert your memory card on the other. They can be purchased in stores like Walmart, Kmart, Best Buy, etc. Just be sure to get one for your particular card and that it's compatible with the computer operating system you use (this info is on the package or you could ask a clerk for help.)

My camera got stuck on video-I turned on and off several times to get to snapshot mode--somehow the files got deleted--is there any internal memory or way to recover the pictures from my vacation?

You should be able to, follow the steps below... How to Recover Deleted Pictures from a Memory Card
Everybody has a digital camera these days. More and more people use digital cameras to record wonderful moments. But it seems digital pictures are easier to lose than traditional film pictures because the digital camera has a useful but dangerous delete button or feature. An operation mishap may delete one or all of the pictures instantly. Do you think the valuable pictures were permanently lost? NO! In most cases, there are some easy ways to restore them.

memory_cards.gif A digital camera stores the pictures you take as separate files on a flash memory card (also known as "digital film"). There are many different types of memory cards such as SD, CF, xD Picture Card, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, the MMC Card and more. In addition, each card type has different brands like SanDisk,Kingston and more. They have different sizes, capacities and appearances, but they are just the same when acting as storage to hold pictures - they are similar to your old floppy disk or hard drive. When you delete one or more pictures from your camera, your camera locates the picture files on the memory card, then "deletes" them and marks the leftover space as usable. In most cases, for fast processing, the camera doesn't delete the picture file body but leaves them as is, which makes it possible for us to retrieve them after deletion. deleted_pictures_download.gif Recover your deleted pictures within several minutes. Download Free Trial Now!

Okay, let's begin. To recover the deleted pictures, you need to connect your camera to your computer (usually via USB). If your camera does not appear as a drive letter in "My Computer", an external USB card reader is necessary. You may find such card readers from local computer shops, Amazon, BestBuy, or Wal-Mart. They're very cheap and very useful, not only for data recovery, but also for photo retrieval and processes in daily life. When you insert the card in the card reader, and connect the card reader to your computer, it will appear as a drive letter in "My Computer", which will allow a software tool to access the data on the memory card.

If you have your camera or card reader connected, you may download the picture recovery software CardRecovery by clicking this download link.

It's a small download and you may get it in less than one minute. Run the downloaded executable file and follow the instructions to install it on your computer. Then launch it. It has a wizard-style interface and it's very easy to use.

Click "Next" on the welcome window, it will bring you to Step 1. In Step 1, you may specify the drive letter of your camera or card reader, as well as other options including file type to retrieve and destination location to save the recovered pictures. Click "Next" to Step 2 and the scan will start. Depending on the capacity of your card, it may take several minutes for the software to fully scan your memory card. The found pictures during the scanning process will be listed. You may preview the detected pictures as thumbnails in Step 3, and choose the deleted pictures that you want to recover. After that, click "Next" again and CardRecovery will save the selected pictures to the location you specified in Step 1.

Your deleted pictures are recovered and got back again. It couldn't be any easier and faster!

Tips:

1. Don't put additional pictures on your memory card if you find you have deleted some pictures by mistake. Otherwise it may cause overwriting and make them unrecoverable.

2. Use an USB 2.0 connection if available to connect your camera or card reader to your computer, it may make the scan much faster than an USB 1.0 connection.

How to recover deleted pictures from sony cyber shot w330

you can recover deleted files from camera with camera recovery software, download this one called asoftech photo recovery that helped me before
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/index.html

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

DO YOU HAVE A SOLOUTION FOR DOWNLOADING PICTURES WHEN WE HAVE LOST THE DISK FOR THE COMPUTER

If you connect the cable from the camera to the computer, the computer will treat it like it is another disk drive. Open Windows Explorer and look for an extra drive. It might even give your camera name. If all else fails, find the company you need the disk from on their web site. They usually have a support section that allows you to download manuals and software for your camera. Good luck!

Can not download pictures on computer- "Communication error" showing on camera display window; camera chip 2GB with 4100 pictures. Tried using another 2GB chip with less than 100 pictures in it...

Start deleting pictures base on how good they are, importance and priority. Then by trial and error delete 50 pictures, download; 100 ... 200. Finally it download ... after 10-15 seconds wait. Total pictures deleted 1700 out of 4200. So there is a limitation on this type of camera with a 2GB chip, you have to stop taking pictures and change camera
chip when the total count reach 2500 + or - 50 pictures.

Deleting pictures from cybershot viewer

Emmmeee,

I had the same problem with my digital cam/corder! An alternative solution to deleting pictures off the camera is, trickily enough, through your computer! This may be a bit of a hassle as you have preloaded your pics. What you will need to do is redownload your pics. You should be asked the option of deleting your pictures after download, and you click on the box.

Missing Pictures

It is possible to recover the lost photos with so-called photo recovery software but it's not 100% sure (if the deleted ones are overwritten). Well, since you failed to mention the OS you are running, I'll recommend you have a try of Wondershare Photo Recovery, a program equipped with both Windows and Mac versions. For Windows OS, download here. If you are running Mac OS X, get the program from this link.

Step-to-Step Instruction:
1. Download and install the trial version on your computer, then connect your camera memory card to the computer (I assume you are using Windows). Start Wondershare Photo Recovery and select the drive letter that assigned to camera memory card.
2. Then choose the file type (all, photo, video, music) click "Star Scan".
3. Now the scanning process will start automatically to look for the deleted items. You will then get a list of all recoverable ones.
4. Preview the photos. If your deleted ones are found, then you need pay to get the activation code. And click "Recover".

I hope you good luck. Greetings
