Why do i boot disk failer

You need to purchase a version of Windows which comes on a CD. Insert the CD in your DVD drive and reboot, and the system setup process will start.
If you had a version of Windows on your old hard drive, get the Key Number off a sticker on your computer and contact Microsoft Customer help; for a small amount of $ they may send you another disk.

How to wipe hard drive and clean install windows 7

Sounds like you may have purchased a "Windows 7 upgrade" (whatever version Home/Pro,) version....

now that win7 is on it, you can boot from the CD, choose the "repair my computer" option, then choose the Advanced Startup repair options....and you can use the command window to re-format, or delete the partition and and re-format the drive....then start-over with a clean disk.

article to read on getting it to 'authenticate' if you DID buy Upgrade media and you want to do a clean install, (normally it won't without some tweaking.)

Gateway ma7 put in new hard drive, cannot connect to the internet via wireless Help?

Did you install the wireless drivers? On a second computer, go online, download the drivers, copy to a USB stick and install them on the Gateway. If you can connect with an ethernet cable then you can do it from the Gateway.
You might have received a DRIVERS DISK with the gateway. That will have what you need also.

Hope this information will help.
Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you for using Fixya...

I am working on an Acer AM5641-E5620A. Something has happened to this computer and the hard drive has been wiped out. I need to reinsall Windows but cannot. I believe it is related to a RAID system used...

Not sure what version of Windows you're trying to install or what you mean by "cannot install windows" but it is possible that Windows 7 and lower might not have drivers if there's a special hard drive controller in that model.

Assuming you can't install windows because you cannot see the hard drive, You might need to download the driver for the storage controller/hard drive controller for your exact model on another computer and put it on a USB disk. When you're getting to the part where it's asking where to install windows look for Load Driver, and choose your USB disk.

If all works out, you should then see the hard drive and then can install windows.

It is sayingpri master disk s.m.a.r.t.status bad back up and replace . and wen i try to boot it is saying fileootcd status;oxc000000f.info an error occuredwhile attemting to read the boot configuration...

This error is indicating a physical problem with your hard disk drive or occasionally with the hard disk drive controller.
The S.M.A.R.T. status error means that there is a physical problem - not a windows installation problem.
The second error you are getting during start-up is secondary the the hard drive problems. The system cannot read some of the information on the hard drive. The area is cannot read contains necessary operating system information.
You need a new hard drive for this computer. If it is still under warranty then call or email Gateway support so that they can send a replacement drive. If not then you will need to purchase a new drive. If a new drive does not solve then problem then the problem is on the motherboard.
You did not specify which model laptop this is. Most of Gateway's laptops have built-in cdrom drives, but a few do not. The systems that do not will accept an external cd-rom drive, and should have been shipped with an external cd-rom drive so that it can be reloaded. You will need a cdrom drive to load your operating system onto your new hard disk drive once you replace it.

What does ' a disk read error occurred press ctr alt del to restart, everytime i do it it gives me the same error??

You could have a hard drive problem. To check the hard drive boot up to the Windows XP cd in repair mode. At the C prompt type: chkdsk /r
This will start a program called Check Disk that will evaluate your hard drive and attempt to fix any errors. it Check Disk is successful it will complete 100% and return to a C prompt. You can then attempt to reboot. If Check Disk finds unrecoverable errors you will need to purchase a new hard drive and rebuild the OS.

Can not read disk error

You can't install any hard disk from any computer and install it into your computer and expect it to work unless it came from the same model computer with the same devices that are installed on your computer.
When Windows is installed it configures the operating system unique to that computer and stores this info in the Windows registry.
To get a used hard disk to work in your computer, you have to install Windows as a fresh installation on your computer.

My Gateway Crashed And I Took The Hard Drive Out And Put It In Another Computer And Upgraded Windows Me To Win Xp And Now When I Turn It On The Best I Get Is A "Failure To Boot" Message. What Do I Do?

Do a Repair Install using the WinXP CD.

Don't go into the Recovery Consol, but continue with installing Windows. Eventually it will detect a previous installation and offer an option to repair it. It it does not detect your previous installation, quit the installation or you will lose your data.

This should fix the problem which is likely that the boot sector on the hard drive is corrupt without affecting your data.

Help me to install WinXP in a Gateway Laptop that came with SATA HDD

you have probably already fixed this but maybe others can find this a little helpful. i had to downgrade a gateway ma7 for one of my customers who had lost their recovery cd with vista on it. Their HD had gone bad.

The reason the XP installer says "no HD" is because the the drivers required by the gateways Sata controller (hd controller) are not preloaded on the xp install disc. The only way around this is to download the windows xp compatible sata drivers from gateways website and then slipstream them into a custon windows xp install cd. its actually not as difficult as it sounds. just download the sata driver, a slipstreaming program called nlite.

1 download and install nlite
2 put in your xp install cd, and run nlite, when nlite asks, browse to the i386 folder (your installation files)
3 you will have lots of options to choose from, but for this purpose, choose "add drivers" and select the location of the gateway drivers (c:\cabs\something) i think.
4 finish and burn the cd. then use it to install windows xp.

this little guide isnt step by step, but with a little trial and error you should get by
