  1. 1 Use your right index and middle finger to check the pulse on the left arm of the subject.
  2. Step 2 Press the radial artery that you are trying to feel firmly with your index finger. The idea is to partially occlude the artery which will increase the volume of the pulse just proximal to your index finger which is underlying the tip of your middle finger.
  3. Step 3 Feel the pulsation with your middle finger by gently touching the skin while maintaining a firm pressure with your index finger.
  4. Step 4 As soon as you feel the pulsations, look at the clock and start counting number of pulsations. Count for at least 15 seconds and multiply the number by 4. To be more accurate, count for the whole minute.
  5. Step 5 Normal pulse is around 72 beats per minute at rest, however anything from 60 beats per minute to 100 beats per minute at rest is also considered normal.
  6. Step 6 Besides the number you should also check the rhythm or regularity of the pulse. Irregular pulse is almost always abnormal and can be due to number of heart conditions, such as Atrial fibrillation or heart block. Pulse may be increased in fever. Athletes may have a pulse as low as the 40s, however, that is considered normal.
  7. Step 7 Sometimes, despite all the correct techniques, you may still not be able to feel the radial pulse. In case someone has collapsed, the most appropriate area to look for the pulse is the carotid artery, just behind Adam's apple in the neck. Other arteries that may also be used are the bracheal artery (in front of the elbow) and the dorsalis pedis (proximal to the first web of the foot).

My kia magentis 2007 crdi on tick over if I push my brake pedal down I get a pulsating coming thru the pedal

Not sure what you mean by tick over but pulse through pedal is usually from ABS / stability system. If you mean you feel this when first starting up vehicle it is probably system doing self test. They do self test at start but usually you don't feel it that much. May be nothing - especially if no light coming on. Only other pulse you may feel is if power brake booster is failing. If you are driving and brakes feel hard to push at times then I would suspect the brake booster for that.

Car is jerking ? mostly while pressin on brake..is this the transmission? 2004 chevy malibu classic

Hello kelley_hornb: My name is Roger and I will help with your problem: If this occurs when you apply the brake pedal? I would look at the brakes. Should your rotors be warped you will have a pulsing feel in the brake pedal when stopping. The harder you push the brake pedal the faster the pulsing feeling. The transmission useually does not cause this feeling or problem. The next time you drive your car. Feel for the sensation when you slow down. As the car gets slower and you can safely let the car stopwith gentle pressure on the pedal. The car should stop with the same pulsing feeling as the car rolls to a stop.Or try putting the car in neutral at 10 mile an hour and gently step on the brake. If you feel the puling then the problem would be the brakes and not the transmission. In doing this you took the transmission out of the equassion. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. This way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Pulsing sound and feel from wheels

Ok, if the wheel bearing assembly was installed incorrectly the wheel would wobble and you would have a disconcerting feeling in the steering wheel. The rotors have to be within factory specs to be turned safely. What I would do is have the rotors checked with a micrometer and replaced.
