Dust on the drum??

Printer stops and the paper gets stuck half way through and the message says "dust on the drum". I open it up and clean it and close it and it prints the copy and then stops and repeats.

No, don't buy a drum, that message means you take it out, run the little blue tab near the front, back and forth about 20 times to clean the corona. You can blow with a can of air into the opening, re-install and you should be fine.

There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used, the number of pages per print job, etc. Under ideal conditions, the average drum life is estimated at approximately 25,000 pages. The actual number of pages that your drum unit will print may be significantly less than this estimate. Because of no control over the many factors that determine the actual drum life there is no guarantee a minimum number of pages that will be printed by your drum. For best performance, use only genuine Brother supplies. The printer should be used only in a clean, DUST FREE environment with adequate ventilation.

The answer is that unless you can clean it without damaging it, which is very difficult, you relly need to buy another DR 3100 drum.

How do I fix repeated paper jams?

Had the same problem with a HL-2140N. My solution was, after unnecessarily taking the whole printer apart inspecting the paper path and assemble it again afterwards, to check if the manual feed would still work. As this worked without a problem, I fuzzily guessed that something had to be wrong before that point.
In my printer, only the separation pad, and the roller right next to it came into question (both mounted at the front of the paper tray). I cleaned the separation pad (ultra fine paper dust gathered over the years) with cleansing alcohol, and took apart the roller assembly next to it (same kind of dust).
Especially the latter was super dirty. I took the roller out to clean the cleansing pad below it with an old toothbrush (Meridol Soft), reassembled, de-greased the roller with some cleaning alcohol, put everything back in place, and my printer works again the way I would expect it too.

Just copy file..always jam..messagge"papper jam

Causes for paper jams in Printers are given below:

* Dust or debris
* Rotating drum problem
* Toner or fuser complaint

Dust or debris

One of the main causes for paper jams is the presence of dirt, dust, or debris in your toner cartridge. The paper coming into the cartridge would get stuck. So clean your printer regularly. Remove the dust from the printer. Also find out whether any jams occurred in the sensor hole in the upper part of the rotating drum. Do not touch the roller while cleaning. If the oil in your body gets into the roller, the printing media cannot roll over it properly and you can't get rid of the printer problem.

Rotating drum problem

If there is no direct symptom of paper jam and still you cannot do printing properly, find whether it is because of drum problem. If the paper gets into the end gear of the rotating drum and gets stuck there, you cannot access the printing function. Switch off your printer and check the plastic arms of the printer drum. If there is any paper piece jammed in any of the arms, you can't continue printing. Here also cleaning is the best method to solve the problem. While cleaning, check the arms of the rotating drum.

Toner or fuser complaint

Toner complaint may also cause paper jams. It can be solved only by replacing it. When you switch on the loop back plug in, two flash lights appear; then it indicates paper jam. The oil spillage in toner can cause this problem. If the toner cartridge is not functioning properly, the same problem would be the result. The diodes or transistors in the fuser unit of the printer may get damaged and this can lead to fuser complaints. To solve this problem, you should replace it.
