Ive had my 360 since December of 08 and it has worked 100% fine up until now. When I put in a brand new disc (or a mint condition one that has been cleaned) It wont read the disc. In fact, is doesnt even acknowledge that the disc is there! When I put in a game (have tried several games) It says that its reading, but then it says for me to open the tray like theres no disc inside! And the few times it does read, it says all my games are DVDs and then goes to a message screen that states for me to insert a CD, DVD, or Xbox 360 Game disc.
Please help! x.x I dont wanna wait a month or pay $140 for shipping it to Microsoft and have them fix it.

Re: Disc Reader not reading disc
You can try to Clean with dvd cleaning kits...if doesn´t work..the only way fix is to disassemble the 360 and force the dvd laser adjusting the micro pot...located under the laser unit..But you will loose warranty and I think that the best way is to send your game console to microsoft...what hurts is that $140,00 you can buy 02 or even 03 xbox drives on ebay. Choose the best way! Good Luck!

Just open the tray close it clean the disc turn it inside again it will work, i alway get this with CoD:WaW. But with all my other games it just works fine maybe there is something wrong with your disc and the console cant read it change it for another one sell it and buy a new one or just try my solve problem. Hope this helped!
Well the disc driver obviously works on most of your games except saints row 2. Saints row 2 is in mint condition well i have this problem too with my 360 it reads some games and it doesn't read my other ones well theirs a few ways one is by leaving the game inside of the console and shut it down wait like 5 seconds and turn it back on. Another is to make sure the laser its self doesn't have dust on it. And when you put in a disc listen to it as it spins if makes any weird scratching noise its probably the laser hitting the disc a lot of 360s disc have been getting scratched recently due to the fact in microsoft's original design of the disc drive the laser keeps on hitting the disc and scratching it so if thats the case you have to replace the disc drive. If solutions don't help let me know i might be able to help you more.
sounds like the laser's stuffed. the lasers in those machines are notoriously bad. you'd best be careful. a dodgy laser will cause laser-burn to the discs. i had the same thing on my machine. i could play a couple of games, then there was some that would work after i took them out and put them in, several times. after fixing the laser, ive not had the problem again.
I had the same problem but i sent it in. They said it was the eye reader error. Or the thing that reads the disc. Try buying a brand new game and try playing it. Alot of times when i have disc read errors i put the disc in where the xbox 360 part at the top goes in facing the xbox. Try that to see if it helps.
every body tells me to call microsoft about it but here what you do ok u need a new dvd drive and you can buy on e brand new on ebay for like 30 bucks i hade the same prob and then you gotta update your dvd drive and flash it
Hmm.... I encountered this once. Check the disc and check for scratches. Then, use a dry soft cloth (must not be wet at all) and rub it around the disc but don't rub the center of the disc. If this doesn't work swap the game. I mean give the Madden with the problem to EB Games or Gamestop and swap it for a brand new one. It should work fine.
