Try reinstalling the video drivers for the video card and/or monitor. Go to the manufacturer's website and check for driver updates under the "support" option. Files get corrupted due to fragmentation, viruses, hard-drive errors, uninstalling programs(my vice), etc. When was the last time you checked cables and cleaned the dust out?(I'm assuming this is a desktop pc)?

My monitor shuts down after one second.

Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean that your Dell computermag-glass_10x10.gif has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display settings.
  1. Step 1 Press any key on your keyboard or move your mouse. Either will turn off power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your Dell computer tower or laptop.
  2. Step 2 Press any key a second time if the monitor goes from power-save to stand-by mode. Stand-by mode allows the screensaver to appear.
  3. Step 3 Enter your user name and password into the login prompt if your computer requires a login. Press "Enter" to begin using your Dell computer.
  4. Step 4 Change the display settings on your Dell monitor to prevent your monitor from going into power-save mode prematurely. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and choose "Properties." Click the "Screensaver" tab and press "Power." Beside "Turn off Monitor," choose a time amount from the drop-down list and press "Apply."

Screen display is hard to see, it was working fine and the all of a sudden I can hardly see what is on the screen. Remote login to the laptop everything is working great.

Remote login? Are you saying you see everything the computer is doing from a different machine? You have a defective inverter , which will result in no back light for your LCD screen. This is something a repair shop will have to repair or if under warranty the manufacturer should repair it.

"no signal"

If you turn on your computer press the F8 key continiously until you get to a screen that gives you the option to boot in safe mode, select save mode, select your operating system, you will be able to login to your profile, right click on the desktop and click on the settings tab( TOP RIGHT HAND Corner) change your resolution to 800x600, Restart your PC. Now you should be able to login to windows and your profile like always. Cheers

Gateway monitor FPD1975W won't display

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

I have had similar problems. It would appear that the power supply is at fault, not the monitor.
