Can not get projector to display document writer and computer

I am using in a school environment a laptop computer and a document writer that need to both be hooked into a projector for the children to see - currently I have only one plug I can plug into on the projector so I'm having to unplug the laptop computer or the document writer for the projector to display what I need. This is a major hassle and time waster for my children. I tried to use this VGA splitter by hooking the little cable into the computer and plugging the document writer and projector into the end that has 2 plugs. It did not work :( but in my mind it seems I should be plugging the one plug into the projector and the device with two should have the laptop and document writer - I don't want to damage anything can anyone please please help?

We can actually close this - I found out the switch I got at Radio Shack would only work when either the document camera or the computer was shut down (in other words both couldn't be powered on) this wouldn't work cause the pc takes forever to boot up and it would be faster to just switch the plugs - but the real answer was to go buy an A/B switch and it works perfect and is half the price of the Radio Shack brand - thank you for your help though...I was desperate :) Patty

Can you be more specific about the document writer?
As a teacher myself I would request money for an extra cable but if you could explain more I might be able to suggest a workaround solution

Projector does not work with computer

Hi Connecting a laptop computer to an overhead projector is a relatively simple process. That said, it can be a disaster to work hard on a presentation, be it for a school or workplace environment, only to show up and find yourself unprepared. Take the time now to learn about the different ways your laptopmag-glass_10x10.gif can connect to an overhead projector, and how to accomplish this easy task, and you can enter your presentation with poise and confidence.
Learn the different types of video outputs your laptop may or may not support. The three most common types of video outputs used with overhead projectors are Video Graphics Array (VGA), Separated Video (S-Video) and High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). You need to make sure your laptop has the correct output corresponding to an input on the projector you will use.

I use a projector with my laptop when teaching school. Suddenly my projector will only display my desktop MINUS the icons. The mouse doesn't show and neither do anything I try to view like files or...

Sounds like your projector was told to be an extended desktop, but not in the usual place, which is to the right of your original screen.
One thing you might try, uninstalling and reinstalling the video card drivers if you can get them easily. Another thing is while your hooked up to the projector, if your using XP, is right click on the desktop, click Properties, Settings, then you should see 2 monitor icons. They should be side by side, if not make them side by side.
You could also make the projector your primary monitor, this will focus it on your desktop as if you were using your laptop screen. You might try this first to see if it corrects your problem.

Can you connect a Mac ProBook laptop to a ProxTrax Multiverse?

Hello. There is no "device" needed to connect the units together...You'll need a cable that is"mini display port to vga". In order to connect the projector to the laptop, the cable has to have the special Apple connector which fits into a specific socket on the back of the laptop. The other end is just a standard vga connector which is plugged into the computer input on the projector. Hope I helped you!

Infocus projector 4805 connected to Toshiba laptop

Connect the external display port on your laptop computer to the projection system, and then turn on the projector. For information about connecting external devices to your laptop, see the documentation for your laptop computer.
Set the display resolution of your laptop computer to match the resolution of the projector system. First, on your laptop, open the Display Properties dialog box by using the Display icon in Control Panel, and click the Settings tab. Then, in Screen resolution area, move the slider to adjust the display resolution of your laptop. If you don't know which setting to choose, try 800 x 600 pixels; this is a common setting for many projector systems.

Screen adjustment

Adjust the screen area of the computer’s display settings to match the projector’s native resolution. Refer to your projector documentation for the optimum or native-resolution setting for your projector model. If you can't find this information or are uncertain, most projectors support a maximum of 800 x 600 pixels.
• With certain laptops, you might need to disable the laptop display to obtain the best image, especially when the native resolution of the laptop exceeds the native resolution of the projector.
• Font smoothing will automatically generate a cleaner font outline, both on your laptop and on the projector. To apply font smoothing, do the following:
In Control Panel, open Display.
On the Appearance tab, click the Effects button.
In the Effects dialog box, select the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box, and then select Standard or ClearType in the list.

If the projected image is dimmer than it was on the laptop, check your projector documentation for information regarding lamp timers. If the lamp life has expired, replace the lamp for maximum brightness.
If the projected image is not rectangular, try one or both of the following:
• Make sure that the projector is perpendicular to the viewing screen.
• Raise or lower the projector.
If the projected image displays vertical lines, "bleeding," or spots, try one or more of the following:
• Adjust the brightness of the image.
• Check the projector lens to see whether it needs cleaning.
• Adjust the sync and tracking on the projector.

Can't get computer images to project

Hi, I have found out that you must have the laptop set to an external monitor, in the control panel, display area, click on 2, then you must have the projector turned on before you start the laptop so it can recognize that the projector is there. Also make certain that you allow the unit to cool off by turning the lamp off, leaving the fan on and open the door where the projection lens is located.
