Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

HOW TO OPEN TO INSERT CD INTO DLINK ROUTER

Hi,
The DVD/cd-rom that comes with the router is so you can setup software on one or more of your computers to manage the router.
So you will place it in the cdrom drive of one of your computers that is hard wired to the router (cable should have also been provided) this allows you to setup things like wireless with security and password protection of the router itself.
Although it isn't the only way to set it up. It is most of the times simpler to configure the router with their software.

hope this helps

Can WRT54GL wireless router transmit to wired and wireless computers simultaneously

Yes it can!!! All you have to do is run the RJ45 connectors out of the 4 ports on the back. Use port # 1 for your base computer. Then set up your LELA to make a USB to take to the other PC's to set them up wireless or wired. If you do not have the LELA program go here: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/LELA to get it. also check the version # on the router to make sure it's a Ver. 3.1 or higher.
If not do a version upload first!
At: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT54G select the downloads button on the right, then your version to get up grades.

Internet connection

I think you have the software LELA (linksys easylink advisor) installed in your computer. Sometimes if it's not updated you it will prompt that you're not connected to the internet though you have internet access.

Solutions:
1) update your LELA - go to linksys.com/download
there's a field there that says enter model/serial number - just type in LELA - then click enter
- on the next page - click on get downloads then select version 3.1
- below there's an option that says download and drivers and you can see there LELA 3.1 just click on the download link and save it in your desktop folder

note: it's quite a big file - more than 200Mb
- before you install it make sure you uninstall the old LELA in your computer
- to uninstall it - just go to add/remove programs then remove linksys easylink advisor

hope this helps... Tech what you want

I have a linksys router model #wrt1601 I'm trying

LELA is a software to help you set up router. But that software has lot of issues. It will be better if you uninstall that software and change the settings of your router manually.
it is very easy to change the settings manually.

WRT400N LELA software not working

Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPPOe.

I can't open Linky's easylink advisor(LELA). I have 2 error messages. One says object reference not set to an instance of an object, and the other error says cannot find platform service. Make sure service...

You don't really need the LELA. It is simply a wizard which guides you through the setup process, but you can always access your router's web interface through http://192.168.1.1 and configure your router from there.

On a side note: I get questions about the "setup-CD" a lot and my answer always is: throw the CD away or put it aside. Set up your router by hand studying the manual and if something goes wrong down the road, you know how to fix it. (If you don't have a manual, you can download it from here. Look underneath your router to find the version number or click the little "?" on the web page.)

If you can connect your main computer to the router with an Ethernet cable, then I would always prefer that to a wireless connection. It is safer but moreover faster (100 Mbps vs. 54 Mbps = almost twice as fast.)
You can also additionally enable the wireless option on this computer, but that is not really necessary. (I do it though...;-)

Well, I hope this helps, but if you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Exception from HRESULT: 0x88980406

There are known issues with the Linksys EasyLink Advisor (LELA). It is a very buggy piece of software that ends up causing a conflict with windows manager as indicated by your specific 0x error code. It is supposed to take the hassle out of setting up your wireless network using Linksys devices, but as you can see this isn't always the case.

The best thing to do, if you are technically inclined, is to uninstall LELA and manually configure your wireless network or hire a teenaged geek to do it for you. If you cannot do this, then try the following (no guarantees):
1. Download the latest version of LELA at http://update.linksys.com/lela/install/lela.exe and save it to your desktop.
2. If you're using XP then go to Start >> Control Panel, click on "Add/Remove Programs", find "Liknsys EasyLink Advisor" and uninstall it. If using Vista, go to Start >> Control Panel, click on "Programs", click on "Programs and Features", find "Linksys EasyLink Advisor" and uninstall it.
3. Reboot your computer.
4. Reinstall LELA by clicking on the LELA file you downloaded in step 1.

Linksys Wireless Adapter can't access internet

I have same problem with WRT54GS router and WPC54G Notebook Adapter. These worked fine until recently...I suspect something to do with installing XP updates and needing new drivers. I tried everything suggested...even updated LELA to newest version, but no success. After hours of frustration, I was ready to chuck it and head to Best Buy to get something different. But I tried one last solution suggested somewhere and it worked for me. Here it is in a nutshell: Uninstall LELA on all computers...sure it's got nice graphics and features, but who cares if it doesn't work!!! Then plug adapter into notebook and let it find the new hardware on it's own. (Linksys is very adamant about running their CD first, but don't do it! You can run the hardware with Windows just fine without LELA.) When the hardware install wizard asks, then put in the Linksys CD so it can download the drivers only. Then set up the wireless network in your network connections and change any necessary router settings directly by accessing it via 192.168.1.1. Yes, I would love to have LELA up and functioning and feel like I have somewhat given up, but when software creates more problems than solutions, I've gotta cut bait. My network now works great. I put a Network Connections shortcut on my desktop to monitor things myself. It's simple and life is good. From these forums, it is obvious that LELA has some real issues. Too bad Linksys hasn't provided a better software product, considering the huge amount of time and money their customers have invested in trying to get it to work!!
