First thing I would ask is this. Was anything spilled on the key board? I had a situation similar to this and I found that my son spilled a Sprite and wiped it up but didn't tell me about it. One way to check this is to hook an aftermarket keyboard that runs off your USB2 port and see if the keys work correctly that way. If they do, I would suspect that something was spilled into your laptop keyboard.
You probably have Number-lock active, test and see; u = 4, i = 5, o = 6, j = 1, k = 2 and l = 3.
the bottom left of your keyboard you should find a key marked Fn. On
the top right of your keyboard you should find a key marked Num LK.
While pressing the Fn key, press the Num LK key once. this should unlock
the number keys and allow you to type letters again.
When the RH side of the keboard types numbers instead of letters then the Num Lock (number lock) key has been pressed.
Press the Num Lock Key again to return to letters again, usually this is usually done by pressing the Fn key plus and probably the Scroll keys, this key will be also marked NumLk, and there will be a LED light that will indicate when the number lock is on.
