try to use LifeCamVX-6000 with skype...daughter can't see us or hear us

Same issue. I had it working ok on Skype, in its own software, and in an internet chat room, but it POINT BLANK refuses to work with Yahoo Messenger. I am THIS close to taking it back to the store, declaring it, "Unfit for purpose". I am NOT happy. I need it to work flawlessly on ALL my IM programs. What's the point if it won't work on the programs I use?

In the WEBCAM SETTINGS panel in preferences in YM main panel, the Camera Settings & Camera Source are sometimes greyed-out. When I DO get the Camera Source activated - all I get is this: Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32), Version: 6.0.6001.18000 and not what I would have expected and yet the camera STILL refuses to work. What the **** is going on?????? Does ANYONE know? I'm using Vista Home Premium x64 with SP1. I have reinstalled the software 4 times, (1.4 and 2.0 with the cam plugged in BEFORE & AFTER installation of the software), I have NO idea what file is JUST the drivers for the cam, (don't need the on-board cam mic), or where it can be found or even what the EXACT file-name of it is or what size it is. The packaging clearly said it was Vista Compatible, meaning it's compatible with x86 & x64 versions of their OS. This is REALLY annoying the **** out of me. I CANNOT believe that Microsh*t, of all people could have a product that simply fails to do as it says it can. I'm SERIOUSLY considering getting a Logitech and telling Microsh*t to go shove their software and hardware where the sun doesn't shine.

There's NOTHING I have found on the net after 4hrs solid searching that offers a SOLUTION, I will NOT accept a work-around or a compromise. I paid a good price for the cam and I am not about to use it as if it was a camera of less than half the price.

Thnaks all. Hope there's a rock-solid solution out there.

my only source choice for microsoft lifecam is Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32), Version: 6.0.6001.18000. I am running vista home premium and my cam works on skype but not yahoo messenger. I have run a test on the yahoo im test page and my cam is compatible. Very frustrating. I have uninstalled and installed several times to no avail.

See section B. Yahoo, in the info below.

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

Uninstall the Microsoft LifeCam and disconnect your camera.
Go to this site: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/435/241&cl=us,en

Download the software for the QuickCam Ultra Vision 5. Save to your hard disk and then run the program.
Reinstall the LifeCam software and then plug in the camera. LifeCam will use the Logitech Drivers and your camera should work fine.
