Question about Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7200A IDE Internal DVD Drive DVD Drive
Here is something to try as a "quick fix" The drive's laser lens might simply have some dust or particles on it which may be causing it to fail to read the DL DVD's. If you use the drive heavily, and I use mine that way, constant opening and closing of the door always allows contaminants to enter--nature of the beast. Try a cleaning cd first. Did you change brands of DVD's? That's an annoying little phenomenon that I encountered with *my* new drive(LG).Some brands are more easily read than others--I've read lots of consumer feedback from people who've experienced this. Next, try a firmware update--the proprietary software that makes the drive operate. This isn't the drivers on your computer. A lot of times, manufacturers will come out with these special updates which fix bugs, have more efficient methods of reading media, or make the drive operate more smoothly. Hope I helped you.--Rick
