Is your DVD drive a Combo DVD ROM and CD Read/writer? If so it cannot burn DVD only reads DVDs and read and burn CDs.
If the program cannot find a DVD burner then either the burning software cannot support that model DVD burner ot the DVD burner is faulty.
To test the DVD burner, remove it and install it into another computer to test the burner to see if is faulty.
U might know that for CDs n DVDs it uses laser beams of different wavelengths. In combo drive there wud be lasers of two different wavelengths. It seems 2 me that one of the lasers[which read the CD]or its component lens is damaged.
you have to see it you if your drive will burn dvds or cds but it should try changing the dvd you are using +r not -r and look at updating the driver it should correct the problem hope this was helpful:)
Hi There that is a hardware failure inside the unit there are two different lasers in the one head one for cd and one for dvd it sound like the dv d head has failed if the unit is new or under warrenty its time to speak to your supplier or if not bite the bullet and invest in anew unit
you're starting to experince laser pick up failure, maybe starting to weakened. Try using a cleaner first and it could be dirty nor with carbon deposits. If still the same then i dont know of any shop repairing DVD drives, it will be up for replacement only.
