The microwave has power and you can enter cooking time and start, vent opens, light comes on, time works but cooking does not happen. Checked transformer #83 and have 120 Volts in and the wires leaving transformer (secondary side I believe) does not have power. Wondering if this transformer is for the cooking.

Typically you can hear the microwave when it is cooking, now you see the light come on and the time elapse but the plate is not turning and the cooking is not happening. I found this out when I went to warm a cup of coffeee up and it did not heat up. Any diagnosis would be appreciated.

I believe your right, I don't think the cooling fan is working either. If I understand, the timer, light and vent will work but the other components won't if the door is not making contact with a specific switch? I will check this out when I get home. Thanks for the help.

Are you sure its not heating? The two problems aren't really related

Is the cooling fan, heat and turntable not working? If not working its the lower door interlock switch or door misalignment. try closing the door and picking up on it some if that dont work push down on it some. If that dont work it could still be your lower door interlock switch but it also could be a faulty relay or triac.

  • roberta3fan Sep 10, 2009

Yes, if the timer and light work but nothing else it's the lower door interlock switch. The door switches have to work together for everything to work right. But, if when you get home and holding up or down on the door dont make a difference then that dont mean it's not the switch but it could also be a faulty relay or triac.

  • roberta3fan Sep 10, 2009

you dont have to hold up or push down to hard.

Thanks, this is also my problem. So now that I know what it is, how do I fix it? Are there instructions somewhere? If I pull up slightly everything starts, but I was hopping for more of a permanent fix? Thanks a bunch, u save me a lot of time!

I do not have wiring diagram. If the wiring diagram is made available by manufacturer, then it will be poked in a plastic envelope inside appliance assembly.

Here the schematics, click on the link to enlarge

Here also part list.

Extra Large GE Microwave does not heat

Dear JD,
If you wish to repair the one you have, recommend you go to the SearsPartsDirect website, and type in you model number when asked.
You will see a nice blow-up of your model with parts listed. According to your information, you should either need a fuse, a capacitor, or a magnetron, or any combination of those.
The fuse might or might not be the problem.
The capacitor is the electronic "starter" to start the magneton, and the magnetron is the part that emits radio waves to cook the food.
Understand that, if you choose to"do-it-yourself", the capacitor is a very dangerous item, as it "holds a charge", so be certain to seek an electrical expert before you start the job.
Another choice for you would be to find a good craftsman who could fashion or design and make some panel inserts for the kitchen area if you must get a smaller microwave.
God bless your efforts.

Check the high voltage diode for a short.

See: http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

The spinning plate in my Microwave broke.

Hi there! Universal Glass plates are available from a good local appliance spares shop. Please note that size of the plate, the coupler (The centre connection point to the plate) and the ring size (on which the plate rests) are all important to the correct function of the plate. Take these along for correct matching if you can or they may even keep your particular Model and Brand. Best Wishes and Good Luck, JUS004

Microwave won't heat anything

take the cover off the machine and look for a 13amp fuse that supplys the tranformers. BEWARE!!!
when you open the machine disconnect from the mains and do not touch the high power circuits the capacitors can hold a charge that can kill.

GE Spacemaker - microwave works but the inside plate doesn't spin

you have a bad turntable motor or a bad control board.. start with the motor 9 time out of 10 this is your problem.. you can pick up this part at your local parts house or order online.. look for universal part. this will be alot cheaper then the oem.. just take the screws out of bottom panel under microwave. panel will drop down. you will see little round motor about 2in' make sure unit is unplugged.

Non-Stick surface peeling off inside microwave.

Normally you can strip and sand the old paint, get it squeaky clean, and use appliance paint. Yes indeed it is a heat-resistant enamel. You can get it from appliance parts stores, Wal-Mart, or home centers, etc. BUT if it's under warranty I would call GE Customer Relations with your model and serial numbers. They're at 1-800-386-1215 (8-6 ET) and I would also suggest you ask them for a referral to a GE-authorized servide center in your area. Good luck. I appreciate your thoughtful rating of this answer.
