Question about Microsoft Exchange Server for PC

1 Answer

Microsoft Exchanges Server 2003 & SBS 2003: Hi all you clever folks, I need some input with he following problem: I am running a SBS 2003 Standard with Exchange 2003 SP2 on my network. I have 2 branches with the same domain emails. Branch 1 is running the exchange and branch 2 connects directly via POP3 to our ISP for their email access. Now if joe@mycompany.co.za from branch 1 on exchange wants to send a email to jane@mycompany.co.za from branch 2 it fails to deliver. Exchange delivers a message that says: You do not have permision to relay this message, relay access denied. Now what I do know is that sending these emails on exchange with the same domain name it will get rejected if the host cannot be found(resolved) that is why I have added an external SMTP address under: Exchange > Servers > Protocols > SMTP > messages > forward all unresolved emails to the following email address. The difficult part comes now: We have a static adsl line, if I configure my server to access internet and email with the static IP addresses then all my emails get in and goes out, except for emails to the same domain. If I change the adsl access account to another (dynamic IP) but still using the static adsl line then the only emails that is able to be send is the emails on the same domain. I am totally frustrated and hav no anwser to this problem, If anyone ca help I would appreciate it, if you need more detail explanation please ask me. Thank you in advance

E-mails are multiplying on their own, I can not delete them

There is a problem with how the POP3 connector processes certain
messages downloaded from a POP3 server. This problem could result in
the POP3 connector accidentally re-sending certain messages to
recipients who are not part of the SBS server e-mail domain.
This may happen only in the cases where the POP3 connector is used to
download mail from an external POP account. Customers using Exchange
to host their mail internally will not experience this problem. This
update resolves this issue.
All SBS customers are encouraged to install this update.

If you had to virtualize a Windows NT server on a server running Server 2003, would you go with VMWare or Microsoft's Virtual Server 2005? Just curious what folks' preference is. TIA -

I prefer another box running NT Server, to be honest. But personally I would go with Microsoft Virtual Server. Ive found that one to be more stable in a server environment. My one experience with VMWare on a server was very blue and crashy.

DNS

If the Windows 2003 server is utilized as the DNS server, then yes it should be set to 192.168.1.5. You need to get into the Linksys router via http://192.168.1.1 and under DNS of DHCP if it is set to .1.1. You should be able to change it to .1.5.

Unable to check for updates with Windows Vista Home Premiun, SP1, 32 bits, error code 80244019 for Windiws Update and 0x80244019 for Windows Defender, last update instaled Jan/01/09

I've been having the same error when I try to run Windows update on a Vista Ultimate machine setup for use with our SBS 2003 server running ISA 2004.

The Solution that I found is this.

When you setup Vista for use with a domain it creates the following regkey with a subkey etc ( policy ) that sets Vista to look for a WSUS server.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"WUServer"="http://serversbs"
"WUStatusServer"="http://serversbs"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
"AUOptions"=dword:00000004
"ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
"ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003
"NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001
"RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:00000001
"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001

When I deleted this key and rebooted my PC windows update was working.

Hope this was somehow usefull

Sync my contacts and calendar from outlook to iphone

You are on the right track.
You need to install the SBS 2003 SP2 package.
It contains Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Exchange 2003 SP2 along with other important updates. (It is a big download.)
Install all of the updates staring with Windows Server SP2.
Once you complete the install of Exchange SP2 your iPhone should sync.

FYI: If you use Remote Web Workplace you will need to forward TCP port 4125 on your firewall to your SBS server after this update or RWW won't work properly.

I hope this helps.

Dell PowerEdge 1600sc server is running

What operating system is the server using? What roles is the server doing (DNS/DHCP/DC/Exchange/etc). If it's a Windows 2003 SBS box, you're supposed to be able to run upto about 75 users. I would never run more than 30 users on an SBS box (and it'd have to be a very high spec). You may consdier bringing another server to do an aditional role (file/print) and leave the primary to be an SBS box

Microsoft Exchange server

I think you mean email *facilities* although your version may be more accurate :-)))

You can't just download it - you have to buy it. If you want it for a relatively small organisation it is much cheaper to buy SBS 2003 which includes both Server 2003 and Exchange as well as other useful things. It's also relatively straightforward to install & get working although I highly recommend reading one of the many guide books that are available first.

If you really need to install them separately and have not set Exchange up before (or been on a course on how to do it) you are likely to have serious problems getting it working. It's complex, requires quite a bit of specialist knowledge and there are many pitfalls.

Sorry I can't be more helpful :{
