Question about Samsung HCM4216W 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Samsung 42" projection green and only green out of focus? Bulb? Tube? IC?

I just had new IC put in the board. Green and only green seems to be the problem. I can see it pulse in and out but it just looks out of focus and over shadows the blue and red on the Convergence menue alinement. Does anyone know what I should do? Please no one seems to be able to help me on this problem.

Thank you. Yes Iv had both IC installed but still have the green messed up. Ill check the fuses today and see what I can find out. Thank you again.

Would the pico fuse be a blue fuse that says H4a on it? If so whats the best way to test these fuses? I have a multimeter and I have it set to ohm. Its lowest setting. What iv been doing is putting - on the bottem of the iC (on one of the 22 pins) and putting the + on said fuse. Im worried i bought some knock off IC's. I purchased them on Ebay for around 14 dollars each shipped. Could you or someone refer me to a good online store. This is the 2nd time this problem has occurred in about a yr.

Thank you very much. I think the guy that replaced my fuses last time used 4amp fuses. I found the old bag with bad IC's from last time and there are some fuses that read 3 1/2 on them.I found FD1028 there are 2 of these fuses. As for the multimeter the settings I have are ACV (200V,500v), DCV (500v-2v), OHM (2m-2k) with 200 also then one that just has a small picture and DCA (2ma-200ma) ill be trying the picture one and ohm 200.

  • needsomehd Dec 10, 2007

ok im not getting any reading on those FD fuses. Smaller fuses like rz108 are giving me readings but some smaller fuses than that like rz111 are not giving readings. Does this mean that all fuses not giving reading are bad?

  • needsomehd Dec 11, 2007

I will be doing that LOL. I think i might be making my tv repair guy mad because I keep brining this IC board in. I think he wants the tv to get $$$. He charges me like 25 bucks to solder the ic's in. I just want to tell him and in case he will not do it Ill have to do it myself.I should have had him test the fuses before picking it up. Thank you for your help.

  • needsomehd Dec 11, 2007

I'm trying to gather info so I can do this stuff myself. im scared of frying my IC board because it that goes I have no idea where to get another one.I dont know how much I can count on this tv repair guy to do my soldering . Thanks again.

  • needsomehd Dec 12, 2007

Hey Premtech. I took that board to the tv reapair guy he said the fuses and resistors where working and functioning. I am stumped he thought it might be bacteria in the fluid or a blown tube. Either service would be around $400-600. If i were to video tape the condition and put it on you tube would that help pinpoint the problem? How hard is to replace a green tube? Also if it was a bacteria problem would the problem be right away or would the picture be fading over time? I was watching football and turned to my pc then back to TV and the green had gone out just like that. Would that mean its a tube? where could I order these parts? Tube and fluid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you Premtech.

  • needsomehd Dec 12, 2007

Im tinkering with the focus on front. I dont know if this would help but green is trying to go back to crisp lean look. Its pulsing alittle. It may go back to normal for a half a sec then goes back to smudged green. This is so depressing.

  • needsomehd Dec 12, 2007

I think im getting closer bill! ok there are 3 "guns" is what i think they are called or CTR? well theres 3 on the front. Now i wiggled a red wire that runs to all 3 and when i move that wire around green almost fixes it self. Could this just be a bad wiring harness? maybe theres hope!!!

  • needsomehd Dec 12, 2007

ok. Its not the wires. I think it may be the green board. When I move the board green moves and sometimes tries to clear up but only for a sec. Do i need a new board? Fuse blown on board? im depressed.

  • needsomehd Dec 13, 2007

ill try and take the crt off tomorrow morning and take a look and see if I see anything. I'll also pick a web cam up so we can get some cam action going. Well maybe no action LOL! Maybe some cam teching LOL. Thank you Bill.

Just had new Ic?? Meaning single?? The symptoms you're describing are a convergence failure. That unit takes Stk392-040 Sanyo Ics and be aware there are a ton of Chineese knock-offs out there that can cause you real trouble, so purchase them from only a reputable part distributor... You need to change both amps, test all 3.9 ohm-2w resistors in that circuit, like Rz123 and Rz124 and check Fd102 3.5a pico fuse for open. That's actually a really easy set to work on for convergence problems because the entire convergence amp board is easily removed.
Good luck!

Continuity of the fuse is tested only between those to leads on the fuse itself.. Your meter should have a continuity selection on it - it's the one test that if both probes are touching together the meter will peak-out. Then just place one probe on each end of the fuse.

Yes, H4A could be a pico, color doesn't really matter, but that would be a 4 amp pico and not the 3.5 amp. Look at the board carefully, everything has a position number on the board. When you see Fd102 labled somewhere in the vicinity of the proper fuse that's the fuse you want to test.

Best place to order your parts, that I have found, is Acme enterprises out of Florida. http://www.acme-sales.net/index.shtml or 1-800-575-9833 they have best quality for the least price. You can get the pico fuse(s), resistors and the amps there...

Anything else I can help with just let me know..

In the shop here we have taken to mounting cooling fans on those amps just as an added measure for cooling. The modification is about $100.00 but well worth the added expense.

BTW: this unit is VERY hard on the convergence circuit. Don't forget to us an ample supply of heat sing grease when mounting them to the aluminum heat sink.

Okay - - whowww up a sec... RZ111 the identifer, meaning the letters that the board position start with like RZ denotes that this is a resistor not a fuse.. As in the example RZ123. Fuses will have a lead identifier of FD or F as in Fd102. If the fuses don't move the meter then they are likely open and you'll have to replace them. You'll probably be better off replacing all of the low ohm resistors 3.9 ohm rather than worry about testing them accurately. Besides, they are not that expensive.

Looking at this laundry list of Q&A would you not feel a bit more comfortable sending this in and having it professionally done??

Putting this on You-Tube would probably help...

You say that the problem clears when you flex or move the board on the green crt?? If so cut the power and remove the green crt board and get out your magnifier to see if you have any ring cracked solder joints that might be causing this...

I have a rear projection Toshiba 42 inch and cannot get convergen

Sounds like convergence should replace chips marked Q 751 and Q752 part numbers ( stk392-110) check restors 1.8 ohms 1 watt rateing should be marked on board as R 7721 and so on, should more than one in the area of the ic. Look to see if there is some small fuses in the area also. They dont look like a normal fuse may be yellow or green black marked F on board around the ics these fuses are called pico fuse.

How do i realine the bulb in my samsung rear projection tv

use you're remote to enter code mute 183 while tv is on then press 7 for red 8 for green and 9 for blue control. arrows or knobbie will move cursor. if you still can not control the red you will need to change the red convergence ic...press perfect focus to save changes if pf is not on remote maybe on tv if neither you will need to get a remote that has it to save info.

Green bulb or tube

Let me know the symptom in detail.
Green bulb (CRT) gives high bright light and tv goes to standby? Do you see few horizontal (retrace) lines while this happens? If yes, you need to replace Green bulb (CRT) of your tv.
Please mention exact model number of tv to guide you further.
and what IC chip you replaced in tv?

Settings on a multimeter

A fuse is just a piece of wire so it has very low resistance. To test it with a multimeter select Ohms and the lowest range. The resistance will be nearly 0 if it's good and very high or infinity if it's bad.

If the set is working at all it's probably not the fuses, though.

Samsung Rear Projection HD tv IC convergence green only messed up now. Help please

To check the pico fuses you're merely testing for continuity. If you get an infinate reading you're in good shape - if it doesn't budge the meter the fuse is open... That's a really easy set to work on for convergence problems - the convergence board is easily removed..
Another cause for mis-alignment like that are the youke return resistors... There are several out front of the convergence amps that may have changed in value. They are 3.9 ohm - 2w resistors and will look identical to Rz123 and Rz124 (same banding). For those simply select a low ohm setting on the meter and check to see if any of them have some way low or way high reading...
Need anything else just ask...

42H82 Picture is ALL GREEN

If the picture is all green and does not shutdown then is probably not the tube and you need to check the green output transistor witch is ussually located in the crt board in the neck of the green tube, you also have an IC that gives the colors then you have a driver and finally the output,(IC and driver rarely go bad but is possible),when you pull the board out of the tube make sure it comes out easy,do not twist the board because it might brake the pins in the tube(gun) and then we will have big problems, many times they secure the board to the tube with silicone and it needs to be removed or cut before the board will come out. Each gun has an output and the defective one should be replaced with an exact replacement.Check also the conections in the green crt board.Let us know if you need more information.

No Blue

Nope you did it! Its the blue tube. Go to http://www.samsungparts.com and enter your model number and look up the tube. I did one last month for someone at techlore.com Are you the same person? Oh well look it up but do you have the proper equipment to replace this tube, as its very dangerous to handle!! They have a tendency to implode and then explode if not handled right.
