Question about Denon DVM-1805 DVD Player

1 Answer

DVDM 1805 I have a Denon DVDM 1805 and have had progressively more trouble reading commericial movie DVDs. It often complains of disk errors, or freezes during play, or skips large sections of a movie. If I unload and load a disk several times I can sometimes get it to read a toublesome DVD. Can you provide any recommendations? Thanks in advance, Craig

I have the same problem, but I don't know how to clean the laser eye. How do you do that?

My Denon DVM1805 works extremely well... except for on the occasions I rent a New Line Cinima movie. Both, Rush Hour 3 & The Sickhouse from New Line have the "copy lock" symbol followed by the note "This DVD is copy protected and may be played only on licensed devices."

Rush Hour 3 will play on my computer and Sickhouse will not.

Both refuse to load on the Denon.

Is it a setting on my player I'm having problems with or is it the format of the DVD or is it a player licencing issue?

Have a Denon 1805 DVD/CD 5 disk changer. A circular part about the size of a quarter came out with the last DVD I took out. Now it won't play either DVD's or CD's

I belive it is a magnet which usually hold a CD on the spindle motor during playing. you need to take off top cover and find the spindle. The spindle has a round base for the disk, above the base should be another round piece with the magnet so during playing the disk is fixed between these two pieces. Check if there is missing round magnet in top piece. You can probably glue the magnet in place. Be careful, everything is fragile there, you can make more damages, probably better to bring it to a repair shop.

You need to clean your laser lens my friend. If that does not help, I'm afraid then that your laser assembly is going bad and on its last leg. The first clue to this is that you stated that the Cd's work and the DVDs do not work properly. The laser, when it gets weak, starts to mess up on the Dvds first but the Cd's will soon follow. Good Luck

Constant disk read issues

It sounds like your laser is going bad. This is a common issue for the PS3. The tell-tale sign is it starts reading less and less and having more errors.

Are the DVDs youre having problems playing movies? If so the decoder may be missing. Confirm for us if the disks youre having trouble with are movies. Data DVDs should play with or without a decoder. Programs such as PowerDVD should solve your problem if this is the case.

I had the same problem and spent some time looking up this issue. I have a sony dvd player and it seems to have trouble reading almost any burnt dvd or cd. I have read that sonys seem to prefer the cheap dvds and cds for burning. It seems the cheap'O dvd players play burnt dvds and cds better that the nice ones, go figure.

There is more info out there about making sure to burn dvds and cds in the correct format.
You can try different burning software that has more options than just vista.
If you are creating a dvd from a movie file such as an avi or mpeg, please explain more on what you are doing and trying to accomplish.

G'luck

DVD Freezes during playback

it might be that you are playing a dual layer dvd in the player. The player needs to focus on the second layer of the movie, and that might be why the dvd freezes. Leave it there for a while and the dvd should continue if it is this situation.

My Smasung DVD/VCR Combo stopped reading DVDs because of a dirty read head. It started by only playing disks sometimes, and progressed to never playing disks. I assumed it was a dirty laser lens so I bought a lens cleaner set. Unfortunately my player wouldn't play the cleaner disk.

So I took it apart and cleaned the laser lens manually with some isopropyl alcohol (the clenser that came with my cleaning disk), and a lens cloth (that came with my glasses). Just open the case (starting with the screws in the back) and remove the snap in cross panel that obscures the lens of the DVD portion. Put a drop of cleanser on the lens and gently wipe it with the cloth.

Oh and by the way, I take no responsibility if you break your own player while following my instructions. My own DVD player was far out of warranty at the time I cracked it open.
