Forerunner 205 wont turn on

I hooked up my 205 to my computer to transfer some data. When I was done, I unhooked it and tried to turn it on. It wouldn't turn on and I cant even get it to charge when I plug it into an outlet.(I tried several outlets)

I turn my forerunner 205 off and put it on the charger, sometimes overnight, and when I take it off the charger sometimes it won't turn on. I usually have to wait hours or until the next day before it will turn on. When it does turn on, sometimes the battery is charged and sometimes it isn't.

Today, I hooked it up to my computer without turning it on and it went into charging mode. I unhooked it to turn it on so I could download my workouts and now it won't come on.

I just purchased my Garmin 205 over christmas. I turned it on the night before to see if it could locate a signal and all seemed fined. Turned it off and put it back in its charging cradle. Got up the next morning to go for a run and nothing. It wouldn't turn on. I thought it had lost its charge so I tried to connect to a wall outlet and nothing. It's like the unit is dead.

I even tried to update the units software version but because it wouldn't turn on I couldn't even do that.

Is this a defect? If so, I probably should have rethought my purchase.

I have the same problem. It appears completely dead for no reason.

Have the same problem. Unit will not charge consistently. I can get it to turn on by resetting but it will turn itself off imediately.

I've deleted all the history from the Garmin and tried upgrading the software. The Garmin was about 1 year 3 months old when I started having problems - just past the 1 year waranty.

when i turned my computer and the device off, it isn't turning on again

I have the same problem (reset doesn't work). A friend told me to charge only if the message "battery low!" is shown. If you do so you want have a problem within at least 4 years. But, if you charge him every day (like I did) you will have problems already within a year!

"To power the unit back on, press the "Mode" and "Reset" buttons at the same time. Let go of those two buttons, press the power button, and the unit will turn back on."
If the unit is no longer displaying maps or lap data in the PC downloaded history ....perform a reset (as above) AFTER deleting all the Garmin HISTORY. This is done on the unit by navigating through HISTORY to "DELETE ALL" ---> now perform a soft reset.

May or may not relate to the above - My wife's would show full battery, turn on ok, find sats ok, but as soon as she tried to put it around her wrist it would turn off.
Problem was the front (containing the screen and inner electronics) part was coming away from the back part (containing the strap and internal battery part) when she was tightening it around her wrist the electonic board contacts separated from the battery - hence instant switch off.
Solution - using your finger nail separate the two parts, apply a fine layer of superglue to the joint push two parts back together and hold. CARE dont get superglue on any other part, it will melt the plastic and leave a mark.

Garmin 295 forerunner will not turn on

Hello,

Did you mean the Forerunner 205?
It is most likely that the battery has died in the unit or there may be a problem with the battery charger.
The internal battery in the Forerunner 205 is not user replaceable and the unit would need to go back to a Garmin repair for replacement.
Please call Garmin Tech Support for assistance.

Garmin forerunner 205 will not stay OFF and none of the buttons respond.

Yes you can restore your data from the TC after a hard reset. You have to go thtrough the setup menu like chose which language etc first.
Well I have exactly the same problem as you and a hard reset did not work either ...
Upgrading / downgrading the firmware also did not work.... the thing keeps on switching itself on regardless....
Do you have found out something more in the mean time?

Yesterday i download the forerunner 205 software from the garmin website. after i connect my unit using usb to the computer, my garmin won,t power on immediately. i tried to reset it (soft and hard reset)...

Did you install the software correctly? Because such errors appear usually when the update/upgrade is not finisher or was not done in a proper manner.
If possible try to verify the device on another computer (a friend's) to see if the same problem appear.
If the problem persists I'd say you've burned out your battery (hope not the hole Forerunner...!).

I reinstalled the driver of my garmin forerunner 205 but it is still not recognized by my computer. it has been working for over a year but now I do not get any connection and the device is not recognized...

Hello,

When you connect the unit to the cradle is there any reaction from the unit? I would try using a different USB port and cord first if this dosent fix your problem the next step would be to obtain a new cradle for your unit. They can be purchased here http://www.gpscity.ca/garmin-forerunner-205-305-charging-cradle.html.

Hope this helps!

The power wont turn on

The instructions say that you should "press and hold the ON" button (top left).

Perhaps you are not holding it on long enough (I think that a delay is built into the buttons to prevent accidental operation due to catching it on something).

Garmin Forerunner 205 Battery won't charge. A few

Hey everyone. Just called Garmin and got it fixed. Sometimes the forerunner goes into power saver mode and needs to be reset

1. Hook up the usb cable and docking station to the computer.
2. Next, hook up your forerunner to the Docking station - It should pop up saying battery charging in progress
3. Leave it all hooked up and Hold the Mode and Lap/Reset Button together for 15 seconds - screen should go blank.
4. Let both go - should pop back up saying battery charging in progress.
5. Let Charge 20 minutes and it should be good to go.

Hope this helps!!!

Garmin Forerunner 305 usb cable won't be read

The problem is probably not with the USB cable if the GPS wont even turn on. The older firmware of the Forerunner 205 and 305 have a problem with locking up. This causes the Forerunner to look completely dead. There is a reset procedure: push the mode and reset button at the same time and then let go and hit the power on button. If it powers on that is the problem. Go to the Garmin site and load the newest rev. of firmware into the Forerunner. Fixed mine and a few friends with the same problem.

I do however have a cable problem. Sometimes my PC will come up with unrecognized USB device and my 305 wont talk to the PC, it does charge. It is the cable or dock for sure, because I have tried a different cable/dock and the 305 has no problem. This is the reason I ended up here. I hope the lock fix works for those with the above problem.

Computer has a problem communicating with my forerunner 205

I just got off the phone with garmin tech. She helped me solve the problem. Here are the steps.

1. Go to http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00466-00

2. Download "Forerunner 205 Ver. 2.80 as of Nov 12, 2007", unzip it, and browse to the folder you unzip the files to.

3. Make sure your Forerunner is connected to your computer and turn it on. Drag file "048401000280.rgn" and drop it on "Updater.exe". A screen will pop up, select "USB" then click OK. Then wait till the process completes.

4. Go to the website on Step 1 and download "Training Center For Windows Ver. 3.3.4 as of Feb 29, 2008". Install it.

5. Run Training Center. At this point, I am able to send/receive data to my Forerunner.

Hope this helps!
