Need the specs and manual for a Foxconn LS-36 mobo dont know what northbridge it has its a478 socket it has three pci slots it was given to me,since I have a spare 478 processor

Use of PCI-e x16 slot for non-video card

WHY would you want to do that?

There is a PCI-Express x1 slot on the motherboard.
Black in color, and in-between the black PCI-Express x16 slot, and a white PCI slot.

Use the PCI-E x1 RAID adapter card in the PCI-E x1 slot, and a PCI-Express graphics card in the PCI-E x16 slot. Sheesh!

A PCI-Express slot is not an evolved PCI slot.
Completely different technologies.

PCI uses a shared Parallel bus architecture, while PCI-Express is based on Serial point-to-point.

So your idea of how to 'fix' your problem, is to use a PCI-E x1 card in a PCI-Express x16 slot, and a PCI graphics card in a PCI slot?

Completely backwards.

UTTER NONSENSE!

The Northbridge chip handles the Faster capabilities of a computer.
Handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and HIGH-SPEED Graphics.

HIGH-SPEED graphics is the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) technology, and the PCI-Express technology.

The Southbridge chip handles the Slower capabilities of a computer.

The PCI bus is one of those slower capabilities handled by the Southbridge chip.

The PCI bus is also a shared bus. This slows data down.
The AGP bus, and PCI-Express bus are Not shared. They also have a direct link to the Northbridge chip.

The PCI Bus has to go through the Southbridge chip, which has to go through the Internal Bus, THEN to the Northbridge chip.

OnBoard video, or Integrated Graphics, uses the PCI bus.
When you inserted the PCI-E x1 RAID card in the PCI-Express x16 slot, and a PCI graphics card in the PCI slot, BIOS just assigned another IRQ for the PCI-Express x16 slot.
(Interrupt Request)

No fancy technology going on there.

Backwards technology going on with a PCI-Express x1 card in a PCI-Express x16 slot, though.

I do not concur, and do not think that is a good solution, Kevin.

The Socket 478 motherboard uses an Intel 82850 Northbridge chip, and Intel 82801BA Southbridge chip, for the motherboard chipset.

In conclusion, you know now that you can use an Intel Pentium 4 processor,
A) That fits in a Socket 478 processor socket,

B) Has a maximum Front Side Bus frequency rate ('Speed') of 400MegaHertz. (FSB 400MHz)

CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term is Microprocessor, or simply Processor for short.
The 'Brain' of the computer.

The Processor sits in a processor socket.
The processor socket for the Soyo SY-KT400 is a Socket A. Also known as Socket 462.

A) At the top middle is the Processor socket. White in color, rectangular in shape, square hole in the middle, and socket holes on it.

To the immediate left of the Processor socket are 8 Electrolytic Capacitors in a row.
These capacitors are Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors. (Used all over the motherboard)

These particular 8 are part of the motherboard voltage regulator circuit.
Specifically, voltage regulation for the Processor.

B) To the right of the Processor socket are three long Black Ram Memory slots. (Proper computer speak for Slot, is Bank. 3 Ram Memory Banks)

C) The Blue and the White connectors to the right of the Ram Memory slots are IDE connectors.
One for the Harddrive, the other one for the optical drive/s.

D) Underneath the Processor is the Northbridge chip. There is a clear fan sitting on it.

E) The large square Black chip with VIA on it, below the Ram Memory slots, and to the right of the purple PCI slots, is the Southbridge chip.

F) The 5 purple long slots are PCI expansion slots.

G) To the right of the bottom purple PCI slot is the CMOS battery.

H) Above the purple PCI slots is a brown AGP slot.

ONN N15235 motherboard, which is a 775 socket. I am currently running a Pentium E2160 on its but its pretty slow so I bought an E5400 to replace it. When I changed the CPU over and started up my computer...


The LGA 775 processor socket doesn't matter, calderwooddu.

It's up to the motherboard chipset, and the BIOS program, and version, of what that Foxconn N15235 will support. I would go back to the Pentium Dual Core E2160, use CPU-Z from CPUID.com, (Free), and see what the motherboard chipset is, first.

(Motherboard chipset: The Northbridge, and Southbridge chips. Chip is slang for I.C. Integrated Circuit)

The Northbridge chip is what determines what Processors are supported.

Since the E2160 is built upon the 65nm technology, and the E5400 is built upon the 45nm technology, the Northbridge chip of the Foxconn N15235 may not support the E5400.

With the technology change are also Instruction Set changes. Plus other parameter changes. The BIOS program, and version on the Foxconn N15235 may not support these, either. Sorry to be a bummer.

Not a solution per se, Yet.

Need to know what computer this Foxconn mobo is out of. (MOtherBOard)
OR, if you get the computer operational again, let's use CPU-Z to see what the motherboard chipset is.

I have a Foxconn LS-36 Revision A01 Motherboard. The Model number is: CN-OGC375-13740-5AG-00CU. (The first O might be a 0). At any rate this MB is on a Dell XPS 600 unit, which has died and I have a Raid 0...


Dell has proprietary motherboards, so most retail mobos out in the market would either not fit into the chassis. if the system is still in warranty. call in for a replacement mobo. otherwise try reaching their out-of-warranty dept/ spare parts dept.

Is a HP Pavilion MCP73M01H1 (Napa) the same as a Foxconn M7PMX-S?


oh wow. Why would the lady say such an ignorant thing with such conviction. This is just nonsense as we all know companies outsource all the time, precisely Retail driven, close to the end user companies like HP and Dell. PRODUCING is not the same as contracting out a set of mobos like the gentlemen correctly suspected of being the same as a foxconn model. I happen to have an HP with a foxconn mobo (and to the guru lady, it seems to also have Nvidia's signature, so really, what you see here, is Nvidia provides tech, Foxconn manpower and efficiency, and HP sales and marketing and the product sells, but suggesting HP which cant get to the phone to keep up support go out and actually manufacture their own mobos is the stuff of laziness).

To the gentleman asking, I have looked at the specs and your analysis seems to be right on. Here's another exact HP product (the one I own, given another HP special foxconn mobo name given the sheer volume of business these folks generate to foxconn. It does seem to get often confusing though and if I were you, and you seem to be quite familiar with hardware and the such, if you were to attempt a flash, make sure to backup first, that is the only harm you will cause to your computer, if you are not cautious even when you're certain.
