You need to install & connect Internet Sharing on your HTC, which would enable your laptop to browse thru HTC

SOURCE: Using HTC Touch 2 as modem for laptop

First of all you need to install the Microsoft ActiveSync (for windows XP) or WIndows Mobile Device Center (for Windows Vista) After that open the Internet Sharing, select USB and click on Connect. Now connect your USB cable to the Laptop, it shall install the drivers automatically, wait for a few minutes and after that you can use the Internet on the laptop via your phone.

Download ActiveSync:

Download Windows Mobile Device Center:

Hello,
  • This tips work for Android 2.1 based HTC phones
    • HTC Legend
    • HTC Desire
    • HTC Wildfire
    • HTC Aria
    • HTC Hero
  • Software needed: HTC Sync 3.0
  • Download Here. (Installation guidelines provided)or http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=312&cat=3&dl_id=982
  • Computer's OS (32 and 64 bits versions):
    • Windows XP
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows 7
  • Others:
    • Of course you'll need to subscribe to an internet package with your mobile operator for this tip to work.
    • USB cable to connect your phone to the PC (usually provided with the phone)

Intro
The aim of this tip is to make use of your HTC phones as a modem http://en.kioskea.net/contents/pc/modem.php3
, connecting your PC,netbook or laptop to the internet. Thus allowing you to browse webpages, send/receive emails, use your instant messaging software, anywhere and at anytime.

Here's how:

Download and install HTC Sync 3.0

Turn on the "Data Connection" feature of your phone (usually configured by the mobile operator)
To enable it:
  • From the Home screen, select MENU>Settings > Wireless & networks> Mobile networks > Check the box next to "Data Connection"
  • Connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable, the synchronisation process is an easy one.
  • In the Connect to PC interface, select "Internet sharing" option and tap on the Done button.

I cant connect my HTC p3400i using my Homepc

Browse the Web on your mobile: Download settings from your Service Provider...
Browse the Web on your Desktop PC using your mobile as a modem - Activate blue tooth on your mobile & your PC (If no internal blue tooth port like most Laptops) you will have to purchase a separate Blue tooth dongle and follow the setup instructions....hopes this makes sense.
