You could have a clog in the housing underneath the dispenser where the water flows through a hose into the tub.
Pull the dispenser drawer completely out.
There is a tab that needs to be depressed to release the drawer and remove it.
Check the opening at the bottom of the housing just inside the dispenser housing opening to see if a small sock or garment is clogging this opening.
Reach down into this opening to see if an item is inside the hose.
This is the normal issue that will cause water to leak out of the dispenser housing.

Wash the dispenser drawer thoroughly with warm water. Make sure that you pull off the siphon covers and wash all siphon holes. This process is described in your owner's manual. Replace the dispenser drawer and try the washer again.

I believe the softener is dispensed through centrifugal force when the machine is in the high speed spin after draining and before filling for the rinse cycle. I had the same issue on another machine. Use very hot water and a washcloth to clean out the softener cup. When adding softener at the beginning of the load, only add the recommended amount and then fill the remainder of the cup with water.

How to keep your new high efficiency washer clean

Start by reading your manual. 99% of folks never do. Less is more with products like detergent, fabric softener and bleach. Because your machine uses less water and has a different theory of operation than a standard top loader, special care must be taken to use only HE detergent, and the smallest amount for the soil content in your load. Fabric softeners build up and accelerate mildew growth, so use sparingly. Wash your machines gasket after you are done with your machine for the day with a paper towel and check under the little flap for any objects you might have missed in pockets or buttons.

Monthly run your machine thorough with hot water and EITHER white vinegar (1 qt, in the detergent dispenser) OR 1 cup chlorine bleach, same place, or you can buy washer cleaners like Affresh tabs or Tide washer cleaner.

The important thing is to leave door ajar to facilitate air flow.

Hi mine does exactly the same! I have to call in my washing machine technician more often (he told me this would happen with a top loader as opposed to a front loader, boy was he right!!) and he cleans out the drum. Mostly it is the fabric softener which is too thick. I water mine down to 50/50 and I do another spin after my final wash. I also empty the filter of water at the side/bottom of the machine. This annoying problem is caused by the way the drum turns on a top loader as opposed to the front loader. My top loader cannot heat water automatically either like a front loader, and I think this also adds to the problem as hot/boiling water would dissolve all that soap/fabric softener. Hope this helps.

Fabric softener leaking from bottom of washing machine

One possible cause.
Someone is pouring fabric softener in the washer's Bleach bezel.
Causing the bezel to become clogged and then overflow.

My stacked Maytag front loader leaks out through the door when the fabric softener dispenser is being filled (2nd rinse cycle only). Any help?

The second rinse is when the softener cup is being flushed. Remove the dispenser and clean and inspect the housing to be sure no softener is gumming up the holes and blocking the water flow into the machine.

Cant remove agitator. Fabric softener cap is off but i do not see a screw or bolt to remove the assembly. agitator is only weakly working

There should be a 7/16 bolt in the bottom of the cup once you have taken the cup out. Its kinda deep you would need a longer extension. Also this agitator bolt usually has a gasket material attached to it and it may be covered by another cap.

Problem turned out to be a leak from the top, not the bottom and was caused by debris blocking an overflow trap

Fabric softener is left in bottom of drum after wash cycle completes

We had the same problem. You have to remove the part that the softener goes in and clean it. You will be amazed at how much build up is in there. That solved the problem for us.
