Try using an external card reader, the one you can connect to your computer. Do not install the flash drive directly to your computer.

The usb ports on my acer 5250-0650 do not work when a memory stick is installed.

Have the ports ever worked? Have you opened the computer icon to see if the flash drive is being detected- but maybe not auto-starting? Also, if a drive is inserted (Windows system), you ought to see the "safely remove hardware" icon appear on your taskbar, near the clock. Clicking on the icon ought to show you the drive by name & drive letter.

Lastly, right-click Computer>properties>device manager>expand disk drives>if your flash drive is shown here, highlight it & uninstall the device. Remove the flash drive, then reinsert it. Windows will reinstall the driver & this may allow it to recognize the drive again.

Let me know?

Cheers

How do you use usb sticks?

1. Plug thumb drive or USB into the USB port on the laptop.
2. Go to My computer and see if you see "Removable Disk" if yes then you double click here and you will see the contents of the USB drive.
3. load something from the laptop or PC to the usb just drag document or program from PC drive to usb drive.
4.Go to site called "Ehow" to gain more information.
Note of caution donot just pull USB from the usb port it will erase all the information and the USB drive will then be rendered usless.
5. Remove USB in the proper manner that is goto the "task bar and look for the "safe to remove hardware" icon or go to the "my computer" icon select the "removable disk" icon ( right click) and the select "eject" if the drive is busy or a message comes up that it is then closed all programs associated to it and the "Eject" the drive and remove it from the USB port.
I hope this helps. Have a good day!

My memory stick plugs in but it doesn't show up on my desktop, so I can't save any work onto it. What should I do?

assuming that u r using a licensed and updated antivirus (i prefer avg/kaspersky) and using win xp pro as os (some os needs driver to b installed manually)..
change or alter and connect to another usb port..see if itz been detected by the system at all..hv a glance into My computer, if any new drive is created..open Device Manager n see if 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' are present, listed n there is no conflict..if u r using a external usb hub, try replacing..
if all the above fails, try contact ur system admin/vendor for either bios/mother/main board update or defective Removable Media, try replacing....
