Re: Getting a copy of the operating System cd for Dell...
Dell not being provided with system operating disk aka Windows nor drivers disk needed for their systems. This always poses a problem when these people are advised to do a repair install or other system repair, only to discover that they have no disks. The normal solution recommended is to contact Dell support and ask for the disks.
Dell has a support site where you can order disks for your system as well as other important links to updated drivers. On the site Dell states:
Dell Customers can now request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system as well as the device drivers and utilities specific to your system.
Requests are limited to one (1) set of backup discs per system purchased.
The backup discs requested must match the operating system that was factory installed on the original order.
Please note that Dell will provide you the most up to date Resource disc available, containing the latest drivers and diagnostic tools currently being shipped on new systems. Due to the frequent updates, this Resource disc may not have all the drivers needed for your specific system, especially if it is over one (1) year old.

1 - You should make a backup hard disk file. 2 - You must have the installation CD Operating System (1 CD or DVD Original) and controloradores (1 original CD or DVD or the downloads page of the DELL), those who brought when you bought it. 3 - You install the operating system (this erases all data from the hard drive), then install the drivers. 4 - You must install a Antivuris and then install Office programs you need. These all purchases or downloads from the internet(trial 30 day) o free. 5 - copy the backed up files to disk.
Dell Inspiron 6000 PC supports only Microsoft Windows XP Operating System. You can download Drivers and application from the link: "http://tinyurl.com/3xc7udy"
You may also try installing Windows 7 Operating System. Please refer below article before installing the Operating System. "http://tinyurl.com/yasa9b7"
Please check if the Hardware of the Computer is compatible for installing Windows 7 Operating System.
The Drivers for Windows 7 Operating System is not available for download at the Drivers page of the Computer. However, Windows 7 has a special feature. Most of the generic drivers will be automatically installed during the installation of the Operating System.
Mickey it sounds like, the system files are corrupted on the hard drive. If you have the disks, I think they are the operating system and the drivers and utilities cd. You would install the operating system cd first and then when that is all done then go ahead and install the drivers and utilities.
If you can't get the operating system to install then the hard drive is bad and would need to be replaced.
If I remember correctly, this is a fault for your hard drive and it either has or is about to die. If you are under warranty, I would suggest calling Dell to correct the issue (they may be able to send you a new drive).
If not, you may be able to salvage your data with a 2.5" drive adapter (either IDE or USB) and another system. If you are out of warranty, you will need to purchase a new laptop hard drive , swap it out with the old one and reinstall your system, applications, etc. For this, you will need the system restore CD and resource CD. If you don't have the resource CD with the drivers for your system, you can download them strait from Dell but you will need a separate disks to install your operating system (windows I'm guessing) applications, etc.
If you were able to salvage your data, you can copy your data back to the system.
