Question about Dell Latitude D400 Notebook
Hi need help on my Dell Latitude d400. The top of my screen is partially blank. I can still use it by using the move command to move the applications in a good viewing location. Initially I thought this is infected by a virus but after removing the virus, it was suspected to be an LCD defect. Please advise...
To determine if the LCD is faulty or the video card, connect an external monitor to the laptop's external video port, power up the external monitor first and the the laptop. The video will automatically switch to the external monitor.
If you see a normal Windows image then the video card is OK and the fault is the LCD screen, then try reseating the video cable/connector on the motherboard.
If the image is faulty on the external monitor then the video card is faulty and it is part of the motherboard and cannot be repaired.

Reinstall it clean ...I mean from scratch..if is a virus or a OS error it wil fix the issue ...it also may be a screen setting ...Im not sure if it has such a feature on your laptop ..but it worth to try ...look for something like the settings from the clasic monitors...also look into the control panel maybe has some settings for the display there ....by the way you described..it doesn't sounds like a lcd malfunction ..cause those slightly ever get this regulate ...and often on small areas...and not rectangular or in lines( band) ...also check the resolution ...even one by one ...to see if another will fit better ...Good luck !
