Hardrive on my HP media center is making noises and it freeze it self. I bought the desktop in Best Buy in 2003 and it was on clearance. I did not receive recovery kit with it because it comes built in the main hardrive. It looks like the previous owner made recovery cd and he/she kept it. I bought new 80gb HD, but I do not have recovery cd. I tried to get it from HP parts but they say that the do not have it. I am stuck. I can't get help from HP or buy it somewhere else. Can you please give me some advice on this.
Thank You
I did a Recovery. The computer works fine - BUT - I can not access my MS Office Suite. I do not have the CD (lost not stolen), and therefore do not have the key. MS will help me if I pay $50 to tell em my problem - OR - buy an upgrade. All of this was installed at Best Buy when I bought this ****** in 2005 by the Geek Squad. Is there a backdoor to the administrator (i already got it going from safe mode) but the software is not allowing me access.

Here is the main page for your Hp m1080n, all your drivers are here as well and they are free. You can install any operating system that you want. Except Vista..
You can use Windows Media Center software which is what came with it. Printed on a sticker on the case is the Media Center's CD key. "I understand you did not get the restore CD with the PC".You can do a fresh install of windows and install the drivers you may be missing from Hp link below. You can also install Windows home or pro but you will need the CD key as well.

Once you get a windows CD all you need to do is put it into the CD player & turn on the computer. The HP will see the CD and ask if you want to start from the CD. "YES". Windows will install.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

HD is bad. I need to instal the new one. Recovery option is locked on the old hardrive and I am trying to unlocke it somehow. As I stated earlier Hawlet Packard does not sell recovery kits anymore.
