Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

PS3 wont boot..PLEASE HELP!

After installing the latest PS3 update, my system wont boot. The light turns green, and then after around 3 seconds, it goes red (shuts down). I tried holding the button down, but same result.

What are my options? Is my PS3 toast?

I looked at the video, and my system isn't doing the same as what their system is. My power light doesnt flash and it stays green until it shuts down and goes back to solid red.

    Is that the same issue?

It's the Yellow/Red Light Of Death. It can be fixed. Go here Follow the videos. A little bit of time and you should be back up and running.

Playstation Error 8002f1f9

The error code is non specific and only indicates there was some issue in updating the system.

If the PlayStation3 system will not accept the update via the Internet, you will want to place the update on a USB storage device (such as a flash drive or thumb drive). You can download the update at

You need to make sure the update is on the USB device correctly. If the folder structure is not exactly right, it will give you an error. The update must be downloaded in a Folder named UPDATE and the UPDATE folder must be inside another folder named PS3. The PS3 folder cannot be inside any other folders, or else the PlayStation 3 system will not read it properly. So the folder organization looks like this: PS3 - UPDATE - update.pup

If the PlayStation 3 system still cannot read the data, attempt to have the system update through the safe mode menu. Sometimes the PlayStation 3 system will accept the update through the safe mode menu, when it will not otherwise accept the update information.

To access safe mode follow these steps:
• Turn off the PS3 by holding the Power button until the power light turns red.
• Press and hold the Power button until you hear 3 separate beeps (separated by about 5 seconds) and the power light goes from red to green and back to red.
• Press and hold the Power button again. This time listen for 2 single beeps (separated by about 5 seconds), followed by a rapid double beep. As soon as you hear the double beep, release the power button. The light on your system will still be green if this is done properly.
• Plug your controller in with the USB cable and you will see a menu with six options. For this troubleshooting, please choose option 6, Update System.

If the system still will not read the update, it will need to come in for service. I have included a link with more information on the service process:

We have a ps3 60gb, and all that comes up on the screen is the wavy lines that is the backdrop for the homescreen. now we did the system reset and now when i turn the ps3 on nothing happens, it just look...

If your PS3 has been restored and the green power light is staying on after you turn it on it could possi bly be the video resolution. If you have been using the PS3 on HDMI you may need to reset it back to standard definition. Do this by holding down the power button for 5 seconds. If that doesnt help try going into the restore menu and "Restore PS£ system" again. If that fails too, download the latest PS3 update and put it onto a USB stick. Using the PS3's recovery menu again, select System update. It will then continue to update from the USB stick. I really hope this helps you out.

I downloaded PS3 system software update 3.15 last night. Now when i turn it on the green and blue lights come on and it starts to boot up but stops and there is nothing on the screen and my controller...

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings. i had the same issue and this fixed it.

My playstation wont turn on the red light shows and then i turn it on the light goes green and then a few seconds later goes back to red and shuts down again whats the problem?

Last person I knew that had this problem, I fixed it. Although he did lose all his save games... The OS software was corrupt. Here's what I did to fix it:
1. Remove the hard drive and plug it into a computer that has a SATA connector on it's motherboard.
2. Format the hard drive, any format will do.
3. Download the latest update from Sony and save it to PS3\UPDATE folder on a flash drive.
4. Reinstall the hard drive into your PS3 and allow it to reformat it. Turn off system after format is complete.
5. Insert flash drive into USB port on PS3. Proceed with update.
6. Restart system after update is complete, and enjoy all over again! =)

I'm sure if you really wanted your save games, there has to be an emulator out there somewhere, but then I don't know how you'd get it back on your hard drive after all is fixed... Honestly, lost save games is better than no PS3 at all...Hope this helps you and many others that had this same problem! =)

It's likely that you are a victim of poor design. Your problem is referred to as the Yellow Light of Death or YLOD.

Help no picture or output

Hello. There are a few causes for this. I will list acouple solutions for you.

1. Reset the Video Output Settings. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings. Once you turn it back on, it should work fine.

2. If option 1 does not work call Sony because the video out chip has blown or come unsoldered.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
