Question about Sony KP-46WT510 46" Rear Projection HDTV

Focus issue after replacing convergence IC's

Hi Everyone. I relpaced the Convergence IC's in my Sony KP-46WT510 and the 5 amp pico fuses. One of the 5 amp pico's was blown but I replaced both. I left the 3.15 picos alone as they all tested ok. The convergence issue is resolved however the picture is somewhat blurry. Print and lettering is especially difficult to read. The 3D effect is all gone now, but I've been unable to get the focus to a good point using the flash focus or the manual convergence methods in the main menu.
Any suggestions? Thanks

The grill from the front of the set? Or do you mean the rear grill?

  • gordon773 Sep 12, 2009

Ok, I figured out how to get the front off. I'll let you know how it all goes. Hoping for the best.

  • gordon773 Sep 12, 2009

I tried the focus but it only helped a little. I'm starting to think I need to replace the convergence resistors as well. Any thoughts?

at a glance I don't see any burned ones. I ordered some replacements so I will switch them out for good measure.

Pull the fron grill off the set then remove the cardboard covering the hole that is in the front of the set you will find a square box that has 6 controls on it adjust the focus for the red, blue and green crts, do not adjust the three marked screen control.

Replaced Convergence chips, same problem

This set has pico fuses on convergence board and also on G power board, there should be 2 5 amp pico fuses on power board.

If convergence is bad exactly as before double check the power board fuses and check to see if voltage (it is marked!) is there with power board disconnected from chassis..

I have a sony kp-51ws510 projection tv, i replaced the convergence ic's and a pico fuse and then reset the convergence. The tv looks good except for a green shadow on lettering, also on the convergence...

Did you check the two pico fuses on the G board? Usually at least one will blow when the original ICs failed. I am attaching a pic that shows the 2 pico fuses on the G board.

I have a similar problem as described as a convergence problem with my Sony KP-53HS30 TV. Can you elaborate further on the solution to repair. Which IC and protector fuses do I replace? Thank you.

Your model uses two STK392-560 Convergence ICs. also there are 6 pico fuses on the D board and two pico fuses on the G board which may need replacement also. The Sony type 1 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com contains the IC's pico fuses and a few resistors plus instructions on CD of how to do the repair.

I suddenly have color separation (blue, yellow, white). Flash focus won't work. Any suggestions.

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Note: there are also pico fuses (on the same convergence board) that need to be checked/replaced

Note:The convergence/defletion/power board (the one the IC's are on) of this model is on the left hand side (when facing the back of set) also check for blown pico fuses when replacing the convergence IC's The best way to replace the IC's resistors and possibly fuses is to remove the entire board.

Red's are out of alignment and I can't fix them

Replace the convergence ICs and the pico fuses you can get a convergence repair kit at the following link which is for the KP46WT510 But its the same one for your model. The kit contains the two convergence Ics all six pico fuses and four resistors. Plus free step by step instructions with pictures that show how to do the repair. Heres the link to the kit.

Sony projection tv convergence issue

You will need two STK392-560 Convergence ICs and you will also need two of the 3.5 amp pico fuses as Sonys will always blow at least two of the Pico fuses. You can get replacement ICs and Pico fuses at the fiollowing link and they provide free instalation instructions. Heres the link.
