I;m sure they are pc100, what do you mean "bus speed"? I have been researching and some threads have said that I should update my drivers for the motherboard chipset and my bios. Now how do I do that? tried some websites but there is no download link.

Is the ram compatible with your Compaq? Meaning, is the PCxxxx / speed of right?

The HP Compaq E500 ram capacity can handle 512MB only.

Standard is 128-MB or 64-MB 100 MHz SDRAM
Maximum is 512-MB 100 MHz SDRAM

For more information about the specs, look at this HP site:

I hope this information helped you.

The Compaq Armada E500 has two memory slots and only allows up to 512MB RAM. Also, it takes (generally) PC100 SDRAM, so if you're using a larger sized module than 512 (or combined modules totaling more than 512MB) or using an unsupported type of SDRAM like PC166 or the like, than the memory upgrade will not work. If you hve double checked and are confident that your memory is compatible and not in excess of 512MB then let me know your specifics.

What did you mean not working ?? didnt see the new Ram memory ?/ or didnt boot at all ....anyway ...when adding new ram memory ..first thing you do is to remove the Bios battery for to let bios on defaults and let it be able to read the new added unit ....second ...be sure the new added ram is compatible and in the same frequency ,then remove the battery like I said and in the last ...reinstall the operating system ....always look at the boot to see if the ram memory that is displayed is the same value with the one you know that actually is installed on the slots...it should work if this was just an option to make it faster ...and not a wild guess cause it use to have issues and didnt boot before...

you can try to enter the bios set-up and choose the optimal defaults option ( factory def...) sometimes it works by just doing this ...if the mem is in tha same freq. with the old one ...it has to work ...so be sure you choose the lower speed ( freq. if they are on the same category ..but different frequencies ..ok ?? even if it isnt quite normal ussualy works with diferent kind of units also ...just be sure there are in the same category ..like ddr ..or ddr2 and the speed diference isnt that great ....I mean if one is on 333Mhz and the new one on 400mhz...just choose from bios automatically ...and it will work probably at the lower value...Boot it several times...if its not reading all the memory ...get the cards out from the slots and place 'em again ...until you gonna see the cumulated value on boot reading ...Good luck !

I can't understand how your computer even works with only 64Megs. of RAM.
Look at the system requirements on the wireless. It will tell you the min. required memory for your device.
Hope this has helped you.

Compaq Armada E500 - Increase Memory

Try one only 256 it should work now. You cannot use a 256 with a 64 it just will not work it is physically impossible. I know with some of those older models and Im picking yours is because you mention you were using 2x64. What you should have done was to buy two x 128 I am possitive your board can only handle 256mb of ram. Try the one only and if it works use that I dont think two of them will work not on that board?? Let me know ok. You might wanna clean your machine out with a software like this and its 30 days trial but has all features till it expires: http://www.tuneup.com. else if you dont want to take my advice on your laptop you can always go here: http://www.compaq.com
