Outlook Express 2003 sending email permanent failure

I received this error message: "554 mail server permanently rejected message (#5.3.0)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL); No. Server Error: 554, Error Number 0x800CCC6F". I can receive emails, but I can't send. This isn't the first time this has happened. The first time it happened, I did the same internet search about the problem, and found a free download called Dr. Web Antivirus. This solved the problem. This time it isn't helping. Can anyone fix this, and/or know why it is happening to begin with? Thank You!

This isn't a problem with Yahoo. It is a problem with Outlook Express.

Thank You! I believe the problem is on my end. If Dr. Web fixed it last time, there must be something to it. Thank You for the repsonses.

Sorry for the confusion, the Yahoo mail icon just stuck in my mind. Outlook Express is attempting to send your message but when it hits the server, the message is being rejected for some reason. Your ISP is the only one who can tell you exactly why your messages are being rejected. However, you should still scan your pc before contacting them to make sure the problem isn't on your end. Every message that goes through their email system is logged and they can review those log files to see exactly why your messages are being rejected. More and more I'm finding that ISP's are using spam filtering techniques on their server in an attempt to limit the amount of spam going through their systems. If your ISP has implemented something of this nature, it could be the cause of the problem. My ISP in particular has recently implemented a policy where any messages sent or received without a subject are automatically deleted and no notification is given to the sender or the recipient. My only recourse was to inform everyone in my contact list a subject line is required.

The message you're getting is because the Yahoo mail server has flagged you outgoing message as either Spam or, it contains a virus.

The first thing you should is scan your pc for viruses / malware using a well known anti virus program. Sophos and Kaspersky both make good products. You can also run a free online scan of your pc from Trend Micro's website.

If a scan of your pc does not detect any viruses or malware then you will need to contact Yahoo's customer support to find out exactly why your messages are being rejected.

There's nothing wrong with your account settings and the free version of Yahoo mail has no restrictions on sending outbound mail except for possibly a size limitation on messages containing attachments.

It is possible that your OS is infected with a malware or virus. The outlook files could be affected and so it might be necessary to reinstall the OS and the outlook once again, then configure your settings with the mail id and password so as to receive and send from your server.
Try and scan the PC for possible virus , run a check to confirm for registry files loss.

554 error messages

Usually, the "reason: 554 mail server permanently rejected message" email is received because the mail server thought your email is spam. If you are trying to send an attachment, that's your problem! Try changing the extension of the attachment by compressing the file in a .Zip archive file.

How to receive mails from two yahoo accounts to one place?

Hi Vinay,

You need to configur your microsoft outlook or windows mail or outlook express in such a way that you recive mails from both the account to one inbox. Follow the below steps if you have ms outlook.

Microsoft Outlook Express
Yahoo! Mail users can read their email in Outlook Express by subscribing to the Yahoo! Mail Plus service. This service allows you to use Outlook Express or another POP3 client to access and manage your Yahoo! Mail messages.

Outlook Express allows you to add a new email account to your existing profile. This means you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages. Here's how:

1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
2. Select the "Mail" tab.
3. Click the "Add" button.
4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."
5. In the text box labeled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."
6. In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."
7. Under "My incoming mail server is a..." select "POP3."
8. Type "pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server box.
9. Type "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
10. Click "Next."
11. In the Account Name box, type your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
12. In the Password box, type your Yahoo! Mail password.
13. If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, check the "Remember password" box.
14. Do not check the boxes labeled "Log on using Secure..."
15. Click "Next."
16. Click "Finish."

Important: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication. To turn this setting on:

1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
2. Select the "Mail" tab.
3. Double-click the account labeled "pop.mail.yahoo.com."
4. Select the "Servers" tab.
5. Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
6. Click "OK."

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server:

1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
2. Select the "Mail" tab.
3. Double-click the account labeled "pop.mail.yahoo.com."
4. Select the "Advanced" tab.
5. In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not check this box if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them in Outlook Express.

If your ISP blocks port 25 or if you're unable to send email, then you will need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change, please follow the directions below:

1. From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts"
2. Select your Yahoo! POP account and click on the "Properties" button
3. Click on the "Advanced" tab
4. Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP), change port 25 to 587
5. Click "Apply", then click "OK" and "Close"

I can't send emails via Hotmail/Outlook express

1.check whther your HTML outgoing mail settings are correct
2.check whther your recipients are HTML capable.
3.Here are some factors that might affect the sending of messages through e-mail clients:
a. You may be using the Incorrect SMTP settings.
b. Your firewall software is blocking your e-mail client or the port for outgoing messages (Port 25) is being blocked by your security software.
c. Your router has a firmware setting to block certain communication ports (specifically port 25).
d. Your ISP has blocked access to port 25.
I also suggest using port 587 instead of port 25. This will help you to get around any blocks set up on port 25.
Moreover, to retain your messages on Hotmail server, check the option to leave a copy of my messages on the server on Outlook Express. For assistance, you can visit this link to contact their support team:
