Question about Toro Lawn Mower With Toro Power Tools

Battery draw down

Hello, I have a Toro ZTR that sucks down the battery between mowings. The battery becomes weak and makes it hard to start. So I charged up the battery, turn the key, there is a slight hesitation, but it pops off and starts. Same thing when it's warm. I am suspecting a short or maybe a bad starter solenoid? What do I check first and how? Thanks

The battery is brand new, so I know that is not the problem. I had the old battery checked when I traded it in, and the guy at Batteries Plus said it was still a good battery. I upgraded simply because of age of the battery. I think the solenoid is bad, but I'm not sure how to test it?

Disconnect the battery. Charge the battery. Then let it sit idle for whatever period of time that it has been taking for it to go dead. Reconnect the battery & try to start it. If it is dead then the battery is bad, If it cranks OK then you have something drawing the current from the battery.

Does the mower die right away (cuts out) or does it sputter to a halt. Sputtering out would indicate a fuel problem. If it just cuts out when hot, then more likely an ignition problem. Your coil may need replacing. Take a close look at the coil wire (spark plug wire) and its routing. Make sure it's not touching part of the engine where it's heating up and has caused a "leak" to ground it out when it gets hot. If all is well then check your spark when the engine is hot and cuts out. Make sure you have a very good blue spark and not a weak one (check it cold first and then compare!). Again, indicating a possible ignition coil problem. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

sounds like your electric clutch is prob bad check to make sure wires are not bare touching something, the clutches do go bad eventually like any other electrical part, disc the pigtail and try fuse, if it blows then I would consider a clutch

Dual blade mower leaves uncut strips between blades.

Had same uneven mowing problem with new Toro Z4200 XTR mower. Problem was one side of the U-shaped rear deck hanger rod had popped out of its chassis mount (did hit something with mowing deck). Removed hanger chassis mount & its bolt. Put end of U-shaped rear deck hanger rod back in the chassis mount and remounted hanger chassis mount & its bolt. Z4200 now cuts lawn evenly again.
