I fixed this problem for free with advice from the canon experts at the canon website, without them trying to sell me anything like a "plan" as your website has proposed.
1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER 2. Release RESUME 3. Press RESUME twice, then release POWER 4. Let green light blink until printer is done futzing
Select function with RESUME press POWER to execute: presses - light color - function
Number of presses - light color - function 0 presses - green - Test print (or exit service mode on i960) 1 press - orange - EEPROM info print (plus grid nozzle diagnostic on i960) 2 presses - green - EEPROM initialize 3 presses - orange - Reset waste ink counter

The print driver might not be sending the correct color profile for photo paper. Check that your selection of the paper type "sticks", that is, that it doesn't revert to plain paper when you click on the print button.
If the print dialog is not working properly, then please get in touch with Canon's tech support to resolve this.
canon i960 -three flashing orange lights (paper jam error) but no paper is jammed. The print cartridge will not slide to center either-- I have tried to get the printer into service mode, but cannot get there because the orange lights never stop flashing.
