1.) THIS sounds like a convergence problem.

2.) Most of these sets use 2 convergence IC's and if you provide me model number I can tell you which ones your set uses.

3.) Usually just both chips need to be replaced and the set adjusted--sometimes there may be a resistor damaged by the chips when they fail.

4.) There is a reason this happens--the chips are mounted on one large or two smaller metal heat sinks to keep them cool---they are about 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall with the STK NUMBER printed on them in white(they are black in color--18 pins each.) When they are installed a white grease is applied to the metal back of each chip to move the heat fast--after 5-8 years the grease(called heat sink compound) dries out and one of the chips cannot move the heat fast enough and it fails.

5.) Both chips can be purchased on Ebay for less than 15 dollars for a pair plus shipping.

6.) Most shops charge 300-400 for this kind of repair--if you are able to do it yourself you can save a lot of money----if not shop around and make sure BOTH chips get replaced--I have done hundreds of sets in the last year here and I charge 200-250; Any good tech can do this repair in your home---if a shop tells you it has to "go to the shop" keep looking.

7.) Now is the slow time of year for most TV shops so if you cannot do the repair yourself shop around. 200-250 is a worthwhile repair and once it is done the new chips should last 5-8 years--These sets are much more dependable then the Plasma and LCD sets.

8.)If you have any questions or need advice reply to this posting here.

I do this here for free so if this information helps you take a minute and give me a vote here.

My rear projection tv used to have green lines , now the color seems off and now its blue lines... How do i fix it. Color going out??

If colors are skewed or looks 3d it is a convergence problem.

Some sets when the convergence grid is called up will have green lines--green is fixed and red/blue adjusted to it.

To tell you how to fix I need to know brand and model number.

These are typical convergence problems--no two sets will look exactly the same.

My red color on the color convergence does not match the blue and green color

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.

Color is mostly yellow and blue with double images

you have lost the convergence IC`s in your set, this really isn`t a diy repair unless you are very proficient in un-soldering and re-soldering components, once replaced there will be an alignment procedure as well that will require the service manual also, if you have more questions feel free to ask away, video-tek

Check that the 3 output plugs are in the right sockets (Red, Blue, Green) There is usually a felt pen colored mark on a white tape on the plug in wires. The Board sockets are marked Red, Green, Blue.

Help with the green.

This is caused by failing convergence ic's. They take the image from the three picture tubes and align them so that one picture is displayed not three. They are the two large ic's on the biggest heat sink in the front of the tv, but changing them can be tricky b/c resistors feeding voltage to those chips may be bad to. It is a simple repair to a qualified technician but a major headache to a novice. It is economical to repair but I would leave it to the pro's. Hope this helped.
