Question about Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX Personal Web Camera

4 Answers

I have a new Logitech Pro9000 webcam. I chat on Yahoo Messenger. When i plug my webcam in, the picture comes up for a second or less, then it freezes and completely disappears.... ALWAYS. I tried it on my work computer and it worked perfectly. I have called Logitech twice and gotten no satisfaction. One tech told me the camera was junk. The other tech said I may need "hardware acceleration" or a new "video card driver" or something about an "ms codecx", whatever that is! What do I do now?? thanks Linda

Copying from "My Conputer" system properties I have:

Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3

    Intel(R)
    Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
2.39 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

On the front of the tower is "DELL Dimension 4550"

    Does this help?

I'm not even close to thinking about resembling a computer expert. I know just enough to get myself in trouble!
I have, however, uninstalled and reinstalled the software and that didn't work. That was pretty easy. But, I don't know the first thing about drivers or frame-rate or buffer....... is this something that a lay-person could understand enough to do? And if so, how do I begin?
    Thanks for your help!

I have taken my computer to the "hospital" three
times. Once i took every one of my
peripherals with me. they kept the
computer and all the parts for 3 days, put it thru extensive "stress
tests" and all three times they could find "nothing wrong" with
the CPU or anything else. Each time I
asked specifically about the video card and each time I was told the card was
fine and adequate for my computer. The
last time I asked if they would just put a new video card in, I didn't care
about the cost. I was told they would do
it, but could almost guarantee it would make no difference. So I did not have them put a new card
in. They also told me that i have more
than sufficient memory, etc., to run the web cam.
There said they could NOT find any reason why it would not work.

Linda, it is the vidio card at your home computer. It is processing the input and trying to push it out over the WWW. It is overloading the card and freezing. Maybe a faster broadbrand sevice may help in the getting the signal out part. most of the time when we buy a home computer we do not think of the what we may do with it down the line. Then we try to do a diffent process and it dose not preform the same. So a new video card, and a faster BB service should fix this.

Hello. I recommend updating the drivers and if needed, re-install the webcam software or use a different frame-rate or buffer setting if applicable.

What is the make and model of the computer that the cam fails to work on properly ? also operating system you are using. it may just be an issue with the drivers or the setup program you have used.

Hi i have a logitech quickcam 500 when i connect to yahoo messenger ican see people im calling but they get a still picture of me and the thumbnail picture of me on my screen turns white thank...

Make sure the webcam functions in the logitech Toolbar using the Video setting in the Quickcam menu
Check you have at least version 9 of the Microsoft DirectX program installed
Check your settings out
Plug in your webcam and visit this site - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.
Do not proceed if the camera fails to work here, but concentrate on your webcam software / drivers

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger 10.

COMPATIBILITY WITH YAHOO MESSENGER

You MUST use Internet Explorer to visit this page, with your webcam plugged in, to check compatibility and automatically download the latest webcam control. Make sure your webcam broadcasts on this page before moving on

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/webcam/mstacamtest.html

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software may have difficulty in locating it. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.
Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at this stage with your happy smiling face.

SET WEBCAM DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam Broadcast > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

AUDIO
Open Video and Voice - run through your default equipment and make a test call - click OK

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your default equipment selections and who you will allow to view you > Apply > OK

Logitech Pro9000 not working with Yahoo Messenger

Normal 0 See section B. Yahoo Messenger in the info below to setup the Audio & Video.
Also send this to your family and friends so they have there computer setup properly.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

Hope this helps. Bud
