1 Answer

Was copying files had 2 shutdown know the drive wont work

I was copying some video files for my dvd player and I had to rapidly shutdown my computer because there was a storm aproaching last night with lots of lightning. Power never went to house and we were not struck so not the issue. When I tried to sonnect my WD passport to the computer the hd makes a high pitch beping like it is emmiting a trouble code like an old modem. It is recognized by the computer in the usb panel and in Disk Managment it shows up a disk 7 not initialized when I try to init it I get errors with both option. Running Vista 64bit updated on a HP rig 8g ram. This hardrive has been nothing but trouble since the day I bought it. I fixed this problem once b4 by dloading a seagate prog but I cant find the one I neeed.

Look...If you shut down a hard drive while it is operating it can be damaged. The hard drive is psinning very fast and when you cut the power to it the read head drops down on the platter and will corrupt data and possibly do some damage to the read head or platter. You can try to format the drive with my computer(do not use quick format) an then do a disk check.

I copied a tv programme onto my lg dvd rh 735t hard drive and then wanted to copy onto a dvd disc. it copied a perfect picture BUT NO SOUND. please help.

It is unlikely not to have copied the audio, You don't say what device you are trying to play the file on. If it's your computer you need to have the correct codec installed for the type of audio in the file. First try installing VLC VideoLAN Official page for VLC media player the Open Source video...
if that fails then here is the codec you need
Free Download DivX 264 Decoder 8 2 0 26
If it wont play on your LG I need more info about the record options and the type of disc used

How to rip a DVD easily

DVDs contain folders and files which are specially developed for DVD players and not for computers.<br /> If you explore the DVD on your computer, you see on most DVDs the folders Video_TS and Audio_TS. The folder Audio_TS is on video DVDs empty. This folders is normally used for audio DVDs.<br /> If you open the folder Video_TS you see that the extensions of the files in it are .vob, .ifo and .bup. The .vob files are actually the .mpeg or video files and only these files contain video. The .ifo files contain information like scenes and time. The .bup files are backup files of the .ifo files. These files aren't relevant for computers.<br /> If you double click a .vob file and you do not have any DVD player installed on your computer, the computer says that it can not open the file. But there is a trick to do let your computer play this file.<br /> The trick to play this file is to copy the .vob files to a folder on your hard drive. The next thing you need to do is to change the file extension into .mpg.<br /> Do not change the name of the file but be sure you change the extension of it!<br /> If you copy the .vob file and you change the extension in .mpg, there is no guarantee that it works. This depends on the codecs you have installed on your computer. But often this trick will work.<br /> So what is the solution if the above doesn't work? The following I will show you <a href="http://www.freedvdripper.org/dvdvideoguide/how-to-rip-a-dvd.html">how to rip a dvd</a>.<br /> Step 1: Download <a href="http://www.freedvdripper.org/">best free dvd ripper</a> and running it. click "Add". It supplies four ways to load files:<br /> Step 2: Select output Profile<br /> You can select one output format you want to rip a DVD as below.<br /> Step 3: Edit the Video<br /> If you want to customize the video, Wondersahre DVD Ripper offers a powerful video editing function, including cropping video, setting the video effects, trimming movie, even customizing personal watermark.<br /> Step 4: Start to rip a DVD<br /> After you select the output format and edit the video(option), all you need to do is clicking the "Start" button. Then you can get a cup of coffee and come back later to check if the conversion is finished. Furthermore, this DVD Ripper even offers the option to automaticlly shut down the computer when the conversion completed.<br /> Now, you must get the idear how to rip a dvd. Download for my DVD player

You say you are downloading videos? If you are talking about YouTube videos you will need a program that can capture the streaming video that YouTube sends to you; there are dozens of programs out there that will do this, just Google "Youtube Video Download". This will give you many options to choose from. Once you have the video file captured you will have to decide how to watch it. If you plan to watch it via your DVD player you can use a DVD authoring program to convert the files into the MPEG2 format and then create the proper VOB files and burn them to a DVD. If you have a newer DVD player or, even better, a BluRay player you may be able to play the captured video files without creating a DVD. You will have to figure out what video file formats your player can read. Once you know which formats then, when you capture the Youtube files, make sure you save them in one of the supported formats. Then you will only have to burn these files to a DVD to play them, skipping all the work of converting to MPEG2 and authoring a proper DVD. If your player has a USB port you just copy the files to a USB Flash Drive to play them on any compatible player.

Have movies on my harddrive but whn I try to burn them they wont play in the DVD player

- It might be that your DVD does not have a compatible video codec

- you actually invest on video codec which converts any video file to .VOB

- There is a software that converts any video file format (example *.avi, *.mp4, *.mpg ) to .VOB

- This should be taken as personal use because we do have laws againts anti piracy (sorry, just a friendly advice)

I am trying to view pictures and videos as well as music form my seagate 250gb expansion portable hard drive, through my dvd player via usb port. it reads "no data" is there anything that i can do to...

Most probably your harddrive is formatted using NTFS file system, while your DVD player only understands FAT32 filesystem.
Check the format of your drive by hooking it up to a computer and opening it's properties. And check your DVD player's specifications regarding USB support in it's manual or online, on manufacturer's website support section.
If indeed the filesystem type is the problem, you can do a couple of things:
1) Purchase a Flash pendrive of suitable capacity (these are FAT32 usually) and use it for viewing pictures & videos on your DVD player,
2) Move everything temporarily from your external hard disk to your computer's disk and re-format your external drive using FAT32 filesystem. Note, that FAT32 has some disadvantages, like a 2GB file size limit. And also remember, that formatting the drive wipes everything from it, so be sure to copy all stuff to your computer's internal drive first!
3) Check the possibility of connecting your PC to the TV directly and forget about the DVD player for viewing pictures and videos.

I have burned a .wma video file on a cd-r, on my computer it runs perfectly... only when i put it in my dvd player it say's stop and won't play. Can someone help me out ? Thanks Jeff

Several causes for non-playback:
1. Your CD player doesn't like CD-R
2. Your CD player doesn't recognize wma
3. The music you converted to wma is copy protected and the CD player wont play due to that.

Solutions:
1. Most likely this isn't the problem as most working CD/DVD players recognize CD-R. Double check with your user manual.
2. Check your DVD player's playback formats. Most will play mp3 and wav. If that's the case, rip your music to mp3.
3. There are many hacks out there to remove copy protection. This you'll have to figure out on your own :)

Region free & Shrink

Found something that might work here^^ Try it and let me know.
Use DVD43(freeware) or AnyDVD or DVD Region-Free to make your region locked DVD drive and your software player region free. You can also "patch" your DVD drives firmware, you find patched DVD drives firmwares here (freeware but it may be a bit tricky and "dangerous").
Plz click on teh links^^
