Pioneer 610HD Rear Projection

My Pioneer 610HD pops off and goes to standy after an indeterminate amount of time. It appears to be of a thermal problem nature. It initially takes perhaps an hour or more before it turns off the first time. A red LED illuminates on the "Primary/Secondary" circuit board. The LED is labeled "Power Down" Any suggestions where to start? warco61@bellsouth.net

I have the same problem. Just paid a tech $360 and it still happens. It's almost impossible to watch an entire show.

I have a pioneer SD533HD5 just died on me about Jan 2 2008. I found out that all rear projection TV ( pioneer , Toshiba, Sony tec..) have similar design . They all use the chipset STK 392 110. When once of these chip die, they cause other problems such as burning resistors, blown fuses etc... You need to examine the board for burnt component to replace.

Rear projection HDTV have been popular about 5 years ago. Most of them use the convergence chip STK-392 110 ( 11 watts) , it is recommended by pioneer to replace these chips with a newer chip STK 392 180 ( 18 watts) more expensive. These chips STK 392 110 goes bad sooner or later. If you replace them, replace both of them . THey are mounted on BIG heatsink . Look for them at the big heatsink . They have 18 pins . It is not too bad to desolder them and remove them. When these chips goes bad, they cause a few fuses to blow up.
Please check all fuses before plug in.

The most common issue on this model is the power board develops all kinds of bad solder connections--have to remove and in most cases hand solder the entire board.

Colors are skewed on Pioneer Pro-520HD

you can replace your the convergence chips on the convergence board. The board is to identify because it has a large heat sink. The convergence chips normally starts with STK... After you find the chip, you can buy online (ebay has a lot of listing) and costs around $10. If you know how to solder, it is very easy to do. I just replace the convergence chips on myPRO-610HD and it works perfectly.

You may need the power supply board resoldered as I had the same problem. The guy listed below can do it for you as I shipped mine from Illinois to him in California... Piece of cake getting the board out of the back and it's not too fraigile... Just pack in bubble wrap and it will be fine. My TV is now working great.

BUT DON'T DELAY AS SOONER LATER TV WILL NOT RESTART..
