Question about Hayward H Series Pool & Spa Heater Electronic Dual Ignition 250,000 Btu Natural Gas H250ed2

1 Answer

I have a Hayward H250ed2 dual electronic gas pool heater...2 years old..all of a sudden it stopped working...I have checked all electrical connects, breakers, and electric lines...all are ok...nothing there is no power...I had the Utilty Co. come and they said it was the Control Panel Assembly. He said that it was a very expensive part. They had a recall on some previous models, I think that these should have been recalled as well. They are not cheap and it is not like you are replacing a fuse or some inexpensive part. HAYWARD should provide the part at no charge, and find out why so many are failing,
and make the necessary upgrade to make them more dependable.

Agreed; it's usually the diode D1 on the board...a 75 cent part

Black oil smelling soot coming out of heater. It also makes a squealing type of noise. It is natural gas. Pressure by utility company already checked. It fires up fine and remains on, but doesn't look...

i think you are on the right track. the gas company will verify the pressure going to unit but it sounds like the gas control valve on your heater may need to be adjusted. for that you will need a licensed gas fitter. call your local pool company or the company who installed the heater. directions on how to adjust the valve will be found in your owners manual

Hayward h250ed2 power to unit 240 v . power from transformer. 28 v. all safetys are closed . flow/pressure switch is closed. 24v (28) to control board. control panal does not lummenate( show temps/pool...

That board is sensitive to power fluctuations and at one point it was recalled. The unit has not been in production for a couple of years now so it is unlikely you'll get warranty consideration from Hayward since if you purchased it 'recently' it should have been on clearance. Your best bet would be to contact Hayward directly and see if they'll send out a warranty provider to get a diagnosis...if you want to proceed contact them at:

I have a hayward h series lp gas heater. 14 months old. Came home today and no LED lighting up and no heat on when water is flowing. Checked circuit breaker at box and there is good power. System has never...

Check power into and out of the transformer...power issues can cook a transformer quickly causing your issue. If low volt side of transformer is ok you will need to check the control board.

Even though the heater is technically out of warranty you may want to have a tech look at it and see if they can still get any parts needed covered.

To find a Hayward authorized tech in your area, enter your zip code and then select repair as the purpose of your search on this web page.
