I unplugged mine, took out the back up batteries, and waited several minutes.

I reinstalled the batteries, plugged it back in, and reset the time.

For now, it seems to have solved the problem.

My wr-100 was doing the same thing. I switched the SAME set to ANY and left the nearest station showing. It started working again as normal. It might have been the ice storms and weather conditions affecting mine as I am on the fringe of signal strength. Might be worth a try.

Message says check reception. radio is in same location as always

This message means that the radio didn't receive the weekly check-in or test signal from the station it's tuned to, sometimes the station will fail to send it. To clear this message, simply turn the switch on the side of the radio off for a few seconds, then turn it back on.

How do i get my WR 100 to stop squeaking durring a weather emergency?

Have you tried tuning to different NOAH frequencies to see if one of them gets better reception? Also, if the radio is close to other electrical devices, they could be causing interference with your weather radio reception.
Just a couple ideas tossed out there.
Good luck.

Got a midland weather radio problem wr100 series. all county codes in and channel set. was working for awhile and now no alerts at all. keeps now saying check reception.

Turn your radio off and then on again. Then press the weather/snooze button. Do you hear the broadcast from your local transmitter? Check NOAA to make sure the station is broadcasting (not down for repairs). Try setting the radio to a different transmitter that covers your area.

You may need an external antenna for the radio (http://www.midlandradio.com/Weather-Radio-Accessories.BPE/18-259W ). Beware: when you use an external antenna, you may receive a broadcast from a different transmitter (farther away). In that case, the weather alerts for your county will likely not come in.

I hope this helps.

(we have two weather radios that are on full-time. The one set to a secondary transmitter does not receive the S.A.M.E. test signals or watches. (It can't be positioned to receive from the primary transmitter clearly.) It does receive warnings for the county correctly. The on/off routine has to be done every few weeks since it doesn't get the test signals. We tried an external antenna and kept getting transmitters from other states and missed tests, watches and warnings. Fortunately our main weather radio does get the primary transmitter and gets the tests, watches and warnings.)

Keeps flashing check reception

That's because you haven't received a Required Weekly Test (RWT) for the present or past week. I just had a problem like this not to long ago. You should try unplugging the radio and taking out the batteries. Put the batteries back into the radio and plug it back in. Check to make sure your settings are still intact (you'll have to reset your time.). I'll have to check the radio this week to make sure that RWT comes in. The National Weather Service (NWS) does its Weekly Required Testing on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. & 12 p.m., I haven't had a "check reception" message scroll across the screen since everything was reset; and to enhance your confidence doing this, I actually saw a person who works on these radios, do this to my radio. As far as the weather radio going off, it really does go off when severe weather strikes, because mine just went off (my area is receiving a flash flood warning). The weather you have been receiving probably isn't "severe" enough for the NWS to sound the alarm. For more information on when and what type of event sounds the alarm, and the procedures proceeded when the alarm goes off; go to these websites:
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/nwrtest.htm

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/nwrwarn.htm#B

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lsx/?n=nwrfaq.

Hope this helps!
