Question about IBM ThinkPad R60 Notebook

2 Answers

I bought a notebook and it works fine on a/c power, but the battery is at 0% and no matter how long I leave it on charge it will not move from this. Have had the battery replaced by store I bought it from, but same problem. Try to charge battery for the first time and it doesn't charge. Checked on the computer if battery ok, it says it is. How do I charge the battery? I bought the computer overseas, so can't go back to store again. Thanks

Sounds to me like the charging circuit is fried but the power circuit to the motherboard is intact . It is a motherboard problem or a circuit in the power structure.

It would appear that your charger is at fault. See if one of your friends might have the same laptop and try his/her charger.

Either your charger is not working or your battery is worn out. Had same prob. with my Acer 5532. After pricing a new one from Acer, I looked on Ebay and found a replacement with 12 month guarantee for a third of the price, so I bought the one off Ebay. Working fine!!!

NEW Battery not properly charging

Batteries have electronics data that software has to get to properly charge it. Newer lithium batteries maybe different. But apparently, you have a work around for a lengthy use of the new battery.

Unplug the power cord from your notebook and leave the battery to discharge completely. With the notebook OFF, plug back the power cord to fully charge your battery. Then boot-up your system.

If the laptop works fine while plugged in but stops working while unplugged, It's likely that either your laptop battery is broken or your laptop battery is not charging properly. Below steps can help you identify the cause of this kinda problem
1. Leave Power plug in
Make sure the computer has been charging from the power plug for at least two hours before attempting to unplug it.

2. Remove and Reinsert Battery

In some situations the battery can become loose. Removing it and then put it back into the laptop.

3. There is Some Software

Use battery utility to determine the total capacity of the battery. For example, Battery Care Software is a free software utility capable of doing this.

4. Refreshing Battery

Some laptop manufacturers allow for batteries to be refreshed through the CMOS setup.

If problem still there. try Replacing Battery or Power Adaptar.
still the problem persist take the laptop to Service Center
best of luck..

No matter how long I leave my computer plugged in, the battery won't charge more than 80%.

OK, I had the same problem as you have, except the battery wouldn't charge beyond 0%.

Sounds like you need to buy a new battery for the netbook.

If the Acer is brand new then it is under warranty. Take it back to where you bought the Acer and get it fixed under warranty. if you attempt to fix it yourself you will most likely void your warranty.

New battery wont charge.

It's sounding like a motherboard problem to me.
You've done all you can--the circuit on your motherboard that controls the charging is evidently gone bad on you.

Laptop battery won't charge - Acer Aspire 4520

Since is shows it as charging then your power cable should be working. So it looks like a battery issue but batteries just don't die unless a cell inside dies then they will stop working. Try taking the battery off and making sure that the connections are clean then put it back in. If that doesn't work give the battery a good full charge then bring the battery and laptop back to where you bought it and get them to test the battery to see if a cell died.
