Re: usb portable drive problem

My 250 gig works fine after I formatted the drive in FAT 32 format. Use a program like Partition Magic to do it as with XP its a bit of a mission to do it. Then it will read it. It takes about 90 secs to c the drive with about 120 gigs of mp3's and divx on. Good luck m8.

Re: usb portable drive problem

The unit shows "cannot play usb device" when ever I put an external drive to it... in the Manual it states that it will not read anything more 10 gb but I have seen on you tube where people plug in 300 GB + but they do not say what type of drive it is. does anybody know what drive works with this unit?

Kd-r400 can't recognize usb

You might have to reset the logic by disconnecting the power to the unit. Remove the fuse temporarily, or both fuses if it has 2.

Do not use a USB hub. • Operation and power supply may not work as intended for some USB devices. • The maximum number of characters for: - Folder names : 63 characters - File names : 63 characters - MP3 Tag : 60 characters - WMA Tag : 60 characters • This unit can recognize a total of 65 025 files, 255 folders (255 files per folder including folder without unsupported files), and of 8 hierarchies.

I have an Alpine Media unit, (iXA-407BT) and i can not get my sony mp3 player to play on it. The manual says that it can play mp3s thru the usb connector. I have tried with no succes and no answer to...

The Alpine usb connector is for usb storage devices i.e. USB Pen Drives. The usb connector on your sony mp3 is to put music into your mp3 not to play them out of.

When I plug my iPhone into the USB it doesn't

ANSWER: The headphone jack will not charge your iPod. Only the USB will charge your iPod. However, the headphone jack will play music, but the USB will not play music from your iPod.
REASON: The headphone jack does not provide any power to charge your iPod. It isnly has enough power to recieve a music signal.
REASON WHY YOU CANNOT PLAY IPOD THROUGH THE USB: The USB is only intended to be used with a flash drive or external hard drive with a folder structure containing either .mp3 or .wma files. The way the USB works on the system is that it reads all the files and folders on the entire device and will say "reading" until it reads all the files and folders. This should only take a few seconds but if there is tons of files it may take longer. Main problem: An iPod contains much more than just music files and folders - it contains an entire operating system. Worse, the operating system which the iPod uses is protected, keeping other devices except for iTunes from reading the music files.
TO PLAY MUSIC FROM USB (NOT IPOD): You will need to use a flash drive or external hard drive with your USB. This device can only contain music, and the music must be organized into folders. Your iPod will not work. However, you can use Auxiliary input using a cable which both ends are 1/4" headphone jacks, one end going to the iPod and other plugged into your stereo.
SOLUTION: To charge your iPod, you need to plug it into USB. However, to play music, you need to plug your iPod into the headphone jack.
Good Luck! - Chris Proia

Clarion DXZ385USB will not play from the usb input

It is not compatible. I had the same receiver and mp3 player. according to the Clarion website, an "ERROR 5" is the message for a compatibility problem. You probably got an "ERROR 2"(format problem) when you had the player plugged in and then cycled through the sources(that's how I received the error).

I have since bought an Ipod and the USB input works just fine. Clarion says the deck is MTP compatible, but it will not run a lot of MTP devices. Only Ipods and certain memory sticks. The Creative Zen Vision M is read as an MTP device when it it plugged into anything like a computer, Xbox 360, and the Clarion USB receivers. The Clarion units even attempt to read it as an MPT device, but will not play. It is not an issue with the receiver or the MP3 files. The Creative Vision M is not a compatible device, sorry.

USB message "No Music Data"

First you need to make sure you have the right formats saved onto the flash drive. The "mp3" format is the most common. Second, once you put the flash drive into the head unit, it should auto detect, if not then you need to put it on USB. Try that and get back to me.

Usb kdc-x890 IPOD

The 890 doesn't support iPod control via USB. You can only read plain data storage devices on the USB port, such as a flash drive or portable hard drive. When you plug the iPod in (to a PC or the 890), it doesn't show up as a plain file storage device. Some of the newer Kenwoods do offer direct iPod control via USB. These ones have more "smarts" and are able to properly talk to the iPod and access its music. For the older models, you'll need to buy the special iPod interface, which accesses the iPod like a CD changer.

USB/MTP device

The real issue here is Digital Rights Management (DRM).
Most purchased MP3/WMA/AAC songs are protected by a DRM license.
The only players that can play it are those 1) capable of handling the type of DRM and 2) registered with the correct DRM license.
That's why I only buy music through, because the music is not DRM protected, and you can just copy it to your USB thumb drive or any player you own. I do this all the time with a Pioneer car receiver that has USB capability. Works fine.
