Question about Compaq Presario 2170US Notebook

Locked out of laptop bios

I back my password and exited without disabling it, now at boot it wants a password and nothing i do works. I tried to flash the bios as the compaq website said, but it was alraedy updated to that version and it didn't fix or reset. I looked inside for jumpers as on a desk top can't see any. I can't get it 100% apart, its still held together in the middle in 2 spots that seem impossible to find how to dislodge it apart, I have all screws out and can see everywhere in there when I pry it open from all sides. Can't see a cmos battery. How in the hell do you reset it, I'm losing my mind.

Thanks,
Billy

Samsung 350v5c blue screen, no signal & won't boot

I would recommend resetting your BIOS back to the defaults.

 1. Turn your computer on and use F2 to access the BIOS.
 2. Using the arrow keys, navigate to the Exit menu.
 3. Look for the option (or similar) Load Defaults and press Enter.
 4. Press F10 to save and exit the BIOS.
 5. Your laptop should revert to the default BIOS and boot order settings.

How to Boot From A Windows 7 Password Reset Disk?

Forgot Windows 7 password? It seems to be a universal iusse as widespread of Windows 7. To solve this problem, you can either buy a burned Windows password recovery CD on-line or burn such a password recovery disk withWindows 7 password reset software. But no matter which method you choose, you have to boot your locked computer from the password recovery disk. However, you will feel frustrated when you have little computer skill. Take these 2 methods as your reference when you encounter the similar problem.
Of course, firstly , you need to create a Windows 7 password reset disk, and then pay attention on how to boot from the Windows password reset disk .
Method OneInsert a burned Windows 7 password recovery CD in your locked computer boot the locked computer from the CD/DVD as follows:

1. Turn on or restart the locked computer, watch the screen for a message like "Press to http://www.passwordunlocker.enter SETUP "or something similar. Press this key as soon as you see the message to enter BIOS menu.
Note: The key pressed to enter BIOS is different based on manufacturers, but F2 or Delete are the most common keys
2. Use arrows to choose Boot on the taskbar, select Boot Device Priority and press Enter.

3. Set CD ROM to the first boot device according to the prompts on the right.

4. Press F10 to save and exit BIOS. You computer will restart with the changed BIOS settings

Method Two
If the method above doesn't work, you can also try to enter Boot Menu to boot the locked computer from the burned CD/DVD as follows:

1. Insert a Windows 7 password recovery CD in your locked computer.

2. Start the locked computer and immediately tap and keep tapping F8, ESC or other keys until the Boot Menu screen appears.

3. Accer apire one d255e hardisk security lock

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is designed to check the integrity of the computer hardware and launch the operating system. The BIOS also has basic security features that prevent unauthorized access to the computer by locking the hard drive with a password. The password is required in order to launch the operating system. That option can be disable without an changes to the operating system.

Turn your computer on. Press "Esc," "Del," "F2" or "F8" to access the BIOS. Use the arrow keys to go to the "Security" tab. Press "Enter." Highlight "HDD Lock," Boot Password" or "Hard Drive password" using the arrow keys. Press "+" until "Disable" appears. Go to the "Exit" tab, highlight "Save and Exit" and press "Enter." As sson as i power on my gateway LT2016U the is csreen requests a password. I can get to the the re_boot or system steup menus?

power off laptop........ (this is your laptop you are the Administrator?) yes.....ready power on .... while this is booting up press F2........ you want to get to BIOS screen (note press quickly this has to happen real fast). once the BIOS screen is up use the up/down left/right arrows to navigate....... there are four / five tabs (screens) you are going to disable the password that is on the hard drive.... (on the third or forth screen (tab))... some laptop bios have 4 and other have 5 (4 or 5 being where you can save and exit).... now using the arrows to navi disable all passwords (you can always re-engage) now save and exit, system should re-boot and hopefully bypass the password......... enjoy

Corrupt & Locked Bios

When you flash the bios (normally from a floppy drive) it should overwrite anything that is there.
In this case you must boot from the floppy. Unfortunately, with a laptop you don't have that option.
I suggest you put the bios flashing utility that you probably downloaded with your bios update file on a flash drive. I think your laptop has the ability to boot from that.
Anyway, on startup, press F12 until you get the boot options and try that.
I take it that you know the support site URL, but just in case, it's support.dell.com

How to reset password

To set the bio password, follow the following:

As soon as your laptop powers up, hold F2 until the ACER logo appears. Now press the right arrow on your keyboard twice to go to the: "MAIN" tab. Now press enter. You will be asked to enter the new password twice along with the original one. (if you previously had a password.). Now scroll down to where it says either: "Enabled" or "Disabled". If it is: "Disabled", press enter and select "Enabled". Exit the BIOS saving changes.

Done.
