You must repair the cause of failure the in most common cases the mother board but before order an expensive part first check the defrost heater... is it ok by ohming it out, then check the thermostat at the top of the evap coil it is round about the size of a plastic coke bottle cap when you ohm it out does it show a reading or is the cap split or warped if so replace it if ok. then the main mother board located at the back of the frig and has a covered panel about 10''' x 14''

Old fashion ice box's had to be defrosted by hand like yall are doing now. Apparently the defrost timer, the defrost heater, or the defrost termination thermostat has took a dump. It takes about 2 weeks for every thang to clog up in a evaporator.
I wrote a tip about it and included links to service manuals HERE

I think you meant you have a GSL25JFPHBS (not 85).
It sounds like you have a defrost problem. If your refrig. was off for some time, like a day or more, or it was manually defrosted, it would work for about 2 weeks before the problem would re-occuer. This is caused by a build up of frost on the cooling coils, preventing air flow over them. Un-load the freezer and remove shelves and the back wall inside the freezer. Melt the frost with a hair blower, and replace the defrost heater (part # WR51X10055) and for good measure, replace the defrost thermistor (part # WR55X10025) located at the top of the cooling coils.

Ge refrigerator & freezer not cooling - frost build up on back wall of freezer

You probably have a bad defrost heater behind back wall of the freezer if you turn the unit off and let it defrost a fan will help speed this up the unit will run for about 2 weeks giveing you time to get a defrost heater GE have glass tube heaters and they are bad about going out good luck
