Re: sp 350

Well, my camera was stuck open for the past few days.( I.E. It would make several clicking sounds and then "beep" "beep...." "Zoom Error" ) I tried everything, including Drizzling oil down the outer Extension cylinder (Not Recommended) but i stopped that after I realized that it might end up damaging the inner lense.
THIS PROCEDURE MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY (im not sure, but it might. and

So I got out a small screw driver and went to work. First I took out all the exterior screws. (There are 4 under the thin mettal plate on the hot shoe, two in the plug compartment, two behind each strap holder, and one under the battery compartment lid as well as some obveous ones on the side and bottom.
Then gently pull the camera apart. (Careful you dont have much slack. I proped the lcd side up on a rag)
Then take the left circuit board off. (the one over the zoom mechanism.)
The circuit board that you have just removed has the sensor on the other side and must be handled with extreme caution. The small glass piece and small metal frame are lose and will fall off if bumped. make sure the area where your doing this is dust and sawdust free. Which was a mistake I made. to keep this sensor out of harms way (and out of your way), I scotch-taped the edge of the board back to the side.
There will be a little silver plate housing several small gears. Take that plate off, being very careful not to lose any of the gears.
Take the gears out, one by one, and clean them.
As you have already noticed, there should be white grease lining the inside of the gearbox. make sure that the grease is free of debris and add additional lubricant, if needed (such as mine did).
All done! now just reassemble your camera and

Zoom Error

I have had the same problem with my camera. It mostly occurs when my battery is going dead. It will go in and out while trying to turn the camera on and off. It will get stuck open and stuck closed and sometimes half way.

I put new batteries in, and it works like a charm. I can now tell my battery is going dead when it starts to behave that way.

Zoom error message

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!

Zoom malfunctioning

This sounds like there is debris lodged in the zoom gears. Been to the beach lately? The gears in the zoom mechanism are very small, and even a tiny spec of sand or other debris can jam them up. Alternatively the sensor inside the lens that feeds back the position of the lens to the control circuit may be failing - so the camera thinks the lens has retracted all the way and stops. If the stoppage of the zoom action is abrupt then it is probably debris, if it is a smooth stoppage like the camera is stopping on purpose it is probably a position sensor. Either way the camera will require repair. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
