Question about Whirlpool GEW9250 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

My duet dryer, GEW9250PV0, has a problem where there is no display on the control panel. However, if I wait several hours the display will come back with a PF error code. If I immediately try to use the dryer it will go back out. If I wait another hour or so the dryer will work fine for a couple of loads then the process starts over. I have tested the outlet with my multimeter as well as the thermal fuse and all connections for the control panel. I cleaned the thermistor but I'm not sure how to test it. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I was thinking it was something along those lines but wasn't sure. I'm thinking I may just replace the board and go from there.

Problem solved, in this case it was a bad breaker. When the circuit was under load one side of the double pole breaker (220) would break giving me 110v to the dryer. However when there was no load it would give me a reading of 220. I found this with a simple load tester I found at the local hard ware store for 11$. I replaced the breaker and the dryer has been going steady for a couple of hours now. The breaker is burnt pretty bad on one side, I'm thinking lighting strike.

You test thermistors by setting your meter on ohms then apply a heat source i.e. a hair dryer to it if the resistance changes it is working.
you have a capicitor in the computer that is draining and, then over time is recharging just slightly then failing again. check all capacitors on the control circuit board for: an un intended ground.

My dryer is doing the exact same thing and I replaced the control board after everything else tested ok. However, it made no difference. It is doing the exact same thing with the new control board. Did you ever determine the problem???? Thanks.

I would first unplug the unit and remove the top cover. There are 3 screws towards the back of it. Push the cover back towards the wall and pull off. To the left you will see a control panel (usually black metal case), remove the 3 screws and flip over so you can see the control. Make sure there are no loose connections. I have ran into quite a few that had relay connection wires loose. If everything is ok. The next thing you would want to do is remove the front lower access panel (kick plat panel) and blower chamber. There is a thermal fuse and a thermistor located behind it. If you have a meter then take the proper continuity tests that are displayed on schematic. Both the thermal fuse and thermistor are fairly cheap. Whirlpool duet dryer is stuck on control lock mode. Have tried pressing the end of cycle button for several seconds and control lock button stays on....dryer won't run.

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.
