Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

1 Answer

I have a Samsung DLP 50" TV (HL-R4667W) that has been nothing but trouble. The bulb has to be replaced about every 6 mos or the set turns itself off. I believe there is some other problem other that the bulb needing to be replaced as I only watch tv a few hours at night. One repairman told me that it could be the ballast or the color wheel, but there was no way to determine without replacing these parts and that might not be the problem. Should I just trash the tv or try to have it fixed?

If the color wheel is the problem you can generally hear a high pitch whine coming from the TV. If it is seized the lamp will ignite for a few seconds and then shut off.

The ballast is only used to ignite the lamp, it shouldn't cause the TV to turn off once it is on.

Since the TV shuts off after it is on I recommend the following:

1st - The lamp cover has a safety switch. if the lamp cover is not pressing on the switch, the TV will turn off after random periods of time.

2nd - The other thing to check is the fan for the Lamp. If the fan is seized or spinning slowly, the lamp will heat up and trip the thermal protection switch. Once that happens the lamp is super hot and could rupture while cooling down.

My lamp burned out and I got the replacecent lamp from samsungparts.com, but the housing didnt fit into the tv. So I put the new lamp in the old housing, after verifying the lamp was the correct part...

According to an aftermarket lamp manufacturer, there are 2 different lamps (1st and 2nd generations) available for the Samsung HL-R4667W, but only one of them will actually fit. The lamp that is commonly associated with this model, BP96-00826A, is used in housing that has a silver bump protruding from the opposite side as the front face of the bulb itself. The other type, BP96-01073A, is placed in a housing that has a smooth back face and a overall larger bulb. I can verify that the HL-R4667W that I own seems to have the second type of lamp.

As long as you didn't open the housing of the lamp that you purchased to try to install the lamp in the housing that your TV came with, you might still be able to request an exchange from samsungparts.com, given the circumstances.

Why won't my Samsung HL-R4667W DLP tv turn on?

Theres a cover on the back that is vented w/4 screws on like the corners, also theres a symbol that looks like a "T" on it,take that cover off and right behind the symbol "T" an arm like plastic piece is what hits a lever inside when then cover is installed ,flip that little blue lever up and down a couple of times with the set unplugged reinstall cover making sure the "T" is in the position to hit the lever and tighten not too tight.
if this don't work it may be your colorwheel.Good Luck!

Samsung 50" DLP - Lamp Light Blinking after bulb replacement

Listen closely. The tv should make a high pitch whine as it turns on. If it does wait and see if it tries this a few times. If yes then check the bulb, I have seen cases where the lamp shoves the power connector back into the set. If the tv starts with a grown or heavy vibration noise, then your color wheel may have broken and needs replaced.

Bightness Change

It sounds like your lamp is going bad. The lamp part number is listed as "lamp code" on a sticker located on the left side of the set. Use this number to grab a replacement off ebay.
