Makes sure the wifi portion of your linksys is turned on.
What operating system are you using, XP, VISTA, LINUX?
Make sure the wifi is turned on in the laptop.
If it is brand new, call your manugacturers help line or read the information that they provided with it. Much faster than someone trying to figure out what you haven't done with a NEW system. If you still can't get it to work, be sure and ask for help again.

Routher cable must be connected to the Internet, then connect the cable routher - pc and run your browser in order to configure the connection. check that you have enabled wifi, save the settings and check if it works. Make sure that your ISP does not grant the Internet through the network adapter MAC address, in which case you will need to change your MAC address on the routhera which you used previously.

Can i hook up wrt120n to laptop without hooking up to cable modem to fix?

Try this: Unplug EVERYTHING(related to both the router and modem). BEFORE you plug in power to anything, connect all of your ethernet. So, first ethernet goes from modem to router. Make sure they are in their proper places. Next, take another ethernet cable and attach that from modem to computer. NOW, power everything up. Google the linksys router splash page login. Im sure it'll be something like: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or something along those lines. From there, you should be able to set up your wireless. Once thats all good, unplug just your computer and everything should be fine. If that doesn't work, its either time for a new router or you're having wifi card issues.

I have the linksys wrt110 router hooked up and there is internet flowing into it but not to my laptop wireless, it doesnt even work when i have the ethernet cord running from it ot my laptop

re-install the software , if you don't have it goto Linksys . com
these units do a funny thing when you are not looking they reset themselves , the hardware on your computer will also have to be
reset , goto control panel/systems/hardware/device manager
click on device uninstall your Ethernet device and reboot the
computer , next place the CD into the tray and start over , I use
the same unit as you , mine has had to be reinstalled 3 times so
far check all connection locations , if all else fails call Linksys

Trouble setting up router

Make sure it is not a cross-over cable, and unplug the Ethernet cord at both ends and then re-connect. Also try a different cord. If you are doing this wireless I would recommend you using an Ethernet cord. You could also push in the little reset button on the back of the router for 45 seconds and then unplug the router then plug it back in and start over with the CD.

How do i reconnect linksys

Oh man your going to have to help me out a little on this one. Do you mean you had to unhook it and connect directly to the modem and now you want to hook the router back up? If thats the case Unplug all the devices (Pc's modem and router) connect an Ethernet cable from the ethernet port on the back of the modem (not the linksys) to the internet ethernet port on the linksys (usually set a little apart from the rest) then connect all the computers to the routers ethernet ports (usually labeled 1-4) then turn on power to the devices starting with the modem, wait for it to completely boot up all the lights like they're supossed to look. Then turn on the router and wait for that to finish booting up then all of the computers. If you have wireless devices that will take a little more help.
