Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

HP 6100c printer/fax/scanner keeps restarting over and over

Keeps cycling through a power-up/power-down sequence.

HP website said that the problem is low power in an office.

NOT the problem; I unplugged the device and moved it to other areas of my house (where I KNOW I have adaquate power) and it STILL continues to do this.

I checked the power cord and re-connected the various parts, but this didn't help either...

Any ideas or solutions? The printer is only 2 years old. I had hoped it would last much longer as it's only used sporatically (a few times a month).

THANK YOU!

Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3 failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable web references to this manufacturer). I purchased 3x 330uF 16V and 1x 680uF 10v rated to 105 degrees Celsius (total about 60cents). On the logic board, the capacitors I replaced are labeled C613, C614, C660 and C662. If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a solder pen. This also fixed the ink system failures the printer was having. A similar fix may apply to other printers produced by HP around this time.

Hi,

first Step - Try another USB Cable.. If this does not solve, try the steps below.

Power off the Printer
Disconnect the USB Cable from Printer to PC ( from PC )
Disconnect the power cord of printer frmo wall outlet

Power off the PC
Disconnect the Power cable from back of PC and from wall outlet as well
wait for 10 minutes

Connect the PC power cables to PC and Turn on the PC
When you login to your Desktop, Turn on the Printer
Connect the Cable,

It should get recognised.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

HP office jet 7310 all in one. when trying to fax it says scanner failure. Turn off power and restart. This accomplishes nothing. Suggestions?

This means that there is an internal failure of some kind (e.g. the scanner is stuck). Be sure that the shipping lock has been removed and try again. HP is very good about support, try contacting them through their website or by phone.

Good Luck!

After running full system recovery I tried to reinstall my printer and scanner. I reinstalled my printer (HP Deskjet 870ces). Then tried to reinstall HP Scanjet 5100c on a machine running Windows XP Pro....

Some time printers and scanners conflict. Try this, uninstall both printer and the scanner, then install the scanner first and try it to see if it works. Then install your printer. If it doesn't work let me know I'll walk you through. Good luck :)

Series 6100c all in one printer software won't load onto my new Vista computer..worked fine with XP. Thanks. Kim

Are you sure it the 6100c. This appears to be the code for a scanner.

It's almost certainely a problem with the Driver. Try getting the driver specific for Vista from the HP Website.

Good luck
